Transportation Demand Management is committed to reducing single occupancy vehicle trips and getting people to use transit, ridesharing, walking, biking, and other forms of sustainable transportation. We focus on understanding how faculty, staff, and students make their transportation decisions and influencing their behavior to use existing infrastructure in more efficient ways. Transportation Demand Management also supports sustainability and public health goals by reducing greenhouse gas emissions, air pollution, and creating a built environment that encourages, educates, and enables people to be active.



Job Summary



We are seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic student to join our team as a Sustainable Transportation Project Manager. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects and programs aimed at promoting sustainable transportation solutions. You will collaborate with our team of experts to support the development, implementation, and evaluation of initiatives focused on reducing carbon emissions, improving air quality, and enhancing mobility options for communities.


Department -Specific Responsibilities


  • Manages IU Bloomington's Bicycle Friendly University and E-scooter education programs

  • Coordinates educational and service events, including bike repair events, bike theft prevention, e-scooter safety resources, and others. Coordinates annual events such as Car-Free Day, Bike to Campus Day, Campus Bikes Month.

  • Responsible for drafting and submitting IU Bloomington's Bicycle Friendly University application.

  • Works with other campus partners such as IU Sustainability and Student Life on projects to improve campus bike and e-scooter friendliness.

  • Conducts a campus-wide bike rack assessment to develop best practices for IU Bloomington including rack placement, usage, type, and update the GIS ArcMap collector database for bike rack data

  • Organizes and directs community engagement efforts to gather input from students regarding transportation needs and preferences, and to educate them on department programs such as Zipcar, Hoosier Rideboard, and the Ballantine Bike Hub.

  • Assists the Transportation Demand Management Coordinator and Bicycle Manager with the biennial Transportation Demand Management survey.

  • Analyzes data related to program usage, mode share, and environmental impacts to inform decision-making and measure the effectiveness of initiatives.

  • Contributes to the development of project proposals, reports, and presentations to gain organizational support and communicate project outcomes.

  • Collaborates with internal and external partners, including government agencies, nonprofit organizations, and community groups, to leverage resources and expertise.




Qualifications



EDUCATION



Required



  • Currently enrolled in a relevant undergraduate or graduate program

SKILLS



Required



  • Passion for sustainability and interest in promoting sustainable transportation modes and reducing greenhouse gas emissions

  • Demonstrates understanding of project management principles and methodologies

  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate complex ideas and information to diverse audiences

  • Comfortability in working with diverse groups of people and in new environments


Preferred



  • Familiarity with ArcGIS software or ability to learn

  • Knowledge about urban planning and sustainable transportation practices




Working Conditions / Demands



This role requires the ability to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. This role requires the ability to move objects weighing up to 25 pounds. The work may be performed outdoors and thus there is exposure to the elements of nature (heat/sun, rain/chill).



Additional Information

This student employee will be expected to work at least 1 day in the office and meet for a bi-weekly staff meeting. The remainder of their work will be done remotely, on or off campus.

This position is eligible to work a hybrid schedule (mix between remote and in-person work), subject to change in the future based on university policy and business needs.
