GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:
We are seeking a motivated, enthusiastic and experienced research technician to join the Rosas lab in the Department of Neurology at the Massachusetts General Hospital MIND Center, Harvard Medical School. Under the mentorship of Dr. H. Diana Rosas, MD, the lab uses and develops techniques and approaches to identify blood and CSF biomarkers from human samples for the determination of key factors that determine onset and/or progression in Huntington's disease and in Alzheimer's disease in Down syndrome. Insights from these studies are then used to further investigate salient and key pathological mechanisms that underlie phenotypic variation and neurodegeneration.
Under the direction of the Principal Investigator and post-doctoral fellows, the research technician will perform laboratory tests on longitudinally collected human samples which include DNA and RNA purification, isolation and characterization of small molecules by HPLC, preparation of libraries for RNA seq, RT- PCR, gel electrophoresis, Western blots and ELISA. Prospective applicants will receive the necessary training to successfully accomplish these analyses. Additional responsibilities include ordering necessary reagents to conduct experiments, and participation in shared upkeep of the lab. Experience in RNA seq and/or reverse phase analytical techniques is preferred but not required. The individual must be attentive to detail, be able to work both independently and as part of a group, be able to communicate effectively and be responsible and diligent. This is an ideal position for someone wishing to pursue and academic advanced degree or to assume greater autonomy and responsibility within the lab.
