The Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation is recruiting a full-time Postdoctoral Associate to assist the PI and research colleagues with grant activities related to the study of neuropathic pain in clinical populations. The lab is primarily concerned with understanding the development and maintenance of central neuropathic pain, measurement and characterization of chronic pain, the impact of chronic pain on physical and psychological health, and the psychosocial contributors to clinical pain report.
The Postdoctoral Associate will collaborate closely with the PI and other research staff to carry out protocols to assess clinical pain conditions and nociceptive and tactile sensitivity in a heterogeneous population of individuals. The Postdoctoral Associate will have the opportunity to improve grant writing skills, mentor undergraduate and graduate/medical students, take lead on and/or co-author scientific manuscripts and other publications and presentations. Current ongoing studies in the PI's lab include: the evaluation of chronic neuropathic pain after spinal cord injury and associations with obesity-related inflammatory cytokines and diet quality; use of quantitative sensory testing to evaluate markers of central sensitization and their association with clinical pain measures; and validation of "bedside" quantitative somatosensory tests feasible for clinical utilization.
Experience with, and understanding of, psychophysical methodologies for studying the somatosensory system is desired, as is a strong statistical background. Collaboration within a research team including those with a variety of experience levels and multidisciplinary expertise will be necessary.
