Job Description:

The University of Houston (UH) College of Optometry seeks an outstanding clinical investigator at the rank of assistant, or associate clinical professor for a non-tenure track faculty position to join our team in the Department of Clinical Sciences ( http://www.opt.uh.edu/ ). The ideal candidate for this position would be a clinician scientist with expertise in clinical outcomes research for the diagnosis and treatment of major diseases and disorders affecting human vision (e.g. myopia, glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration, diabetes, strabismus, amblyopia).

The successful applicant will join a diverse group of clinicians and vision scientists studying normal and abnormal visual processes in humans using a variety of approaches ranging from assessments of visual function, ocular imaging, general health assessments, patient interviews, and more. This individual will work with multiple investigators conducting clinical research (e.g., clinical trials, industry sponsored investigations, clinical safety assessments, drug and device efficacy studies, and clinical outcomes research) in our nationally recognized, externally funded research programs.

The college has longstanding research programs related to refractive error, contact lenses, visual development, diabetes, glaucoma, and other ocular conditions. These research programs are supported by a P30 core grant from the National Eye Institute (NEI), T35 training grant from the NEI to support research training for professional students, support for graduate students, and excellent state-of-the-art clinical, biological, and animal, research facilities. Existing biomedical research strengths within the College, University and the neighboring Texas Medical Center provide a unique environment for collaboration. A varied patient base provides opportunities for patient-based or translational investigations.
