Job Description:

Who We Are:


The Materials Science and Failure Analysis Section develops solutions for complex materials problems using experimental and analytical methods. We serve government and commercial sponsors across a variety of technical sectors.


Objectives of this Role:


  • Provide laboratory support for research projects involving materials synthesis, optimization, and failure analysis.

  • Use a variety of chemical/physical processes for materials synthesis and bench top characterization techniques to evaluate material systems.

  • Provide data analysis and present results from project tasks in person and in writing to a multidisciplinary project team.

  • Assist in, or lead, the design and assembly of laboratory apparatuses, including electronic, thermal, and mechanical controls.


Daily and Monthly Responsibilities:


  • With guidance from senior staff, perform analytical and experimental work in materials science and chemistry laboratory spaces.

  • As necessary, perform troubleshooting on experimental methods and data acquisition instruments.

  • Analyze and summarize collected data utilizing multiple post processing tools and report data to project team.

  • Support or lead the design and assembly of specialized laboratory apparatuses.

  • Coordinate with other operating groups to fulfill project needs.


Requirements:


  • Requires a Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science & Engineering.

  • 0-3 years: Hands-on experience operating laboratory analytical instruments, preferably related to chemistry or materials characterization.

  • 0-3 years: Must possess strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills, the ability to work independently and effectively communicate complex information.

  • 0-2 years: Hands on experience with LabVIEW or similar control engineering software, programming languages (Fortran, Python, etc.) is desired.

  • 0-2 years: Hands on experience in the design and assembly of laboratory apparatuses. Familiarity with CAD software (e.g., Solid Works), processes flow diagraming, electrical and mechanical control systems is desired.

  • A valid/clear driver's license is required.
