Oklahoma State University - Stillwater, Oklahoma The Department of Plant and Soil Sciences in the Division ofAgricultural Sciences and Natural Resources at Oklahoma State Universityinvites applications for the position of Assistant Professor and Soil and WaterManagement and Conservation Specialist. This position is an 11-month, tenure-trackposition located on the main campus in Stillwater with 85% Extension and 15%research responsibilities.
Position Description

The successful candidate is expected to develop a nationally recognizedinterdisciplinary extension program, supported through extramural funding, toeducate and equip natural resource managers and other stakeholders to betterunderstand, appreciate, manage, and conserve soil and water resources. The extensionprogram will address both rural and urban soil management issues such as soilerosion, compaction, tillage, soil health, carbon storage and credits,salinity, greenhouse gas emissions, ecosystem services and on-site wastedisposal. The program will also address rural and urban water management issuessuch as reducing losses of sediment and nutrients by runoff and leaching, increasing water use efficiency in rainfed croppingsystems, and ways to improve soil water storage. The successful candidate should be willing and able toaddress soil and water issues across Oklahoma's diverse ecosystems includingrainfed cropland, irrigated cropland, pasture, rangeland, and forests. Thecandidate will lead OSU efforts in hosting state and national Land Judgingcompetitions and will coach the soil judging team. The successful candidatewill establish an externally funded applied research program that supports theextension mission. The individual will assist with graduate student recruitment,advising, mentoring, and retention.  Thesuccessful candidate should have a demonstrated ability to work cooperativelywith a diverse faculty and to secure extramural research funding.


Qualifications
* Ph.D. in Soil Science, Water Resources, Agronomy, or closely related field
*Strong communicationskills with the ability to effectively communicate to scientific andnon-scientific audiences orally and in writing
* Commitment to working effectively and collaboratively with faculty in Plant and Soil Sciences and across the Division of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources
* Ability to identify and aggressively pursue external funding for research and extension efforts
* Demonstrated ability to publish research findings in peer-reviewed journalsPreference will be given toindividuals with:
* Experience with Extension program development and assessment
* Evidence of ability to secure external funding sources  
* Experience in teaching and/or coaching Land/Soil Judging



Employment Conditions

This is an 11-monthtenure track faculty position. The position will be filled by July 1, 2024, or as soon thereafter as an acceptable applicant is available.
