About the Role

The Assistant Director plays a pivotal role within the Teaching & Learning Center, working with a collaborative team to develop and deliver high-quality faculty development opportunities. This position is instrumental in researching, evaluating, and implementing emerging instructional trends to enhance healthcare education. The Assistant Director is dedicated to cultivating a positive, learning-centric culture and supporting faculty in adopting best educational practices. The Assistant Director will actively contribute to the TLC's vision of becoming the preeminent resource for discovering and disseminating best educational practices to ATSU faculty, empowering them to positively influence student learning outcomes.


Job Responsibilities

Working as part of a team responsible for providing University-wide faculty development opportunities, the primary duties
of this position are to concurrently:

  • Collaborate with the TLC team to design and deliver customized faculty development opportunities, including:
    ○ Virtual and in-person interactive presentations and workshops.
    ○ Development of self-help resources such as video tutorials, job aids, and instructional materials.
    ○ Facilitate foundational classes in course design, educational technology, and educational research methodology.
  • Research, assess, and implement emerging instructional trends relevant to healthcare education, ensuring alignment with the TLC's mission and goals.
  • Provide consultation, coaching, and mentoring to faculty and staff on integrating innovative instructional techniques and technologies into their teaching practices.
  • Foster a positive, learning-centric culture within the ATSU community by promoting the adoption of best educational practices and facilitating collaboration among faculty members.
  • Assists the Director in formulating and implementing department policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for managing all aspects of the TLC in the absence of the Director.


Job Requirements

  • Master's degree in instructional design, educational technology, or related fields.
  • Demonstrated commitment to Diversity, Equality, Inclusion, and Justice (DEIJ) initiatives.
  • Proficiency in delivering compelling presentations for diverse audiences using Google Slides and other presentation technologies.
  • Strong writing and proofreading skills are required to craft instructional materials using Google Docs, including reports, manuals, and guides.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
  • Familiarity with Google Apps (Gmail, Calendar, Chat) and video conferencing tools such as Zoom.
  • Experience with learning management systems (LMS) such as Canvas and lecture-capturing software like Echo360, as well as proficiency in interactive educational technologies, are required.
  • Eagerness to engage in educational research, program evaluation, or scholarly activities, including literature reviews, research design, data collection, analysis, and visualization.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in higher education teaching across face-to-face, online, or hybrid environments.
  • Background in consulting with healthcare professionals to address evolving priorities and goals.
  • Interest in developing self-paced instruction using e-learning tools such as Articulate Storyline or similar platforms.
  • Track record of conducting educational research, program evaluation, or scholarly activities, including literature reviews, research design, data collection, analysis, and visualization.
