Job Description Summary

Job Description

The Communication Neuroscience Laboratory at The Annenberg School for Communication is seeking a research coordinator / recruitment specialist to work on a project relating health communication and psychology to real-world health outcomes. The GeoScan Smoking Study is a longitudinal project examining the relationships between smoking behavior, brain activity, and real-world exposure to point-of-sale-tobacco marketing. The project uses multidisciplinary approaches including mobile-phone based geolocation tracking, functional magnetic resonance brain imaging (fMRI), and self-report surveys collected in real-time through mobile-phone based ecological momentary assessment (EMA).

The position is an excellent opportunity for someone who 1) loves interacting with and helping people, especially over the phone, 2) is interested in learning about and improving wellbeing and health, and 3) wants to gain full-time research experience. The research coordinator / recruitment specialist will be participants' primary contact to field concerns and answer questions about the study tasks and protocol, and will foster a positive experience for participants during study participation. The primary duties for this position include recruitment and eligibility screening; and scheduling and conducting in-person and remote study sessions. Additional duties include IRB management; maintaining the study database and study documentation; and conducting data quality assessments. The research coordinator will work with a project team including the PI, staff, postdocs, and graduate students.

This role will require skills in community organizing/outreach and research, and we invite candidates with either skill set to apply. Although successful applicants do not need to have all of these skills to start, interest in learning is required. Given that this project focuses on working with a community sample of participants, the ideal candidate will have work, volunteer, or lived experience with a wide range of populations, such as socioeconomically diverse or under-served adult groups. This position will begin in spring or summer 2023.

We believe that our science is better with a diverse team. We embrace and encourage our lab members' differences in age, color, disability, ethnicity, family or marital status, gender identity or expression, language, national origin, ability, political affiliation, race, religion, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, veteran status, and other characteristics that make our lab members who they are.

Position is grant funded and continuation is contingent upon continued receipt of grant funds.

Qualifications:

A B.S. or B.A., with background in psychology, neuroscience, communication studies, public health, sociology, or a related field, plus 1 to 2 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience (e.g., previous lab experience, customer service, or community volunteering/work experience) is required. Research and project management experience in a university and/or community setting. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills. Demonstrated ability to be proactive in problem-solving and to work independently, as well as in a team. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to work on multiple tasks, developing solutions to basic technical problems.

To complete your application, please fill out the survey found at this link: upenn.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_etYt3RHZ8JToyh0 in lieu of a cover letter. Applications without this Qualtrics survey will NOT be considered complete.

Preferred:

Given that this project focuses on a community sample of participants, the ideal candidate will have work, volunteer, or lived experience with a wide range of populations, such as socioeconomically diverse or under-served adult groups.

Experience in a customer-service and/or community-oriented role is strongly preferred. Experience with or interest in recruitment and running research protocols in psychological and/or neuroimaging studies. Experience with or interest in using RedCap and/or Qualtrics. Willingness to work flexible hours (evenings, weekends). Previous experience working with IRB. Previous supervisory experience and ability to assist in the training of lab personnel.
