The Industrial Hygienist will support the Environmental Safety, Health, and Mission Assurance contract (ESHMA) in Cleveland, Ohio to protect the health and safety of workers in industrial and government facilities. This position will support the implementation of industrial hygiene programs and generalized occupational health support to other center functions.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Initiates and plans health programs in industrial plants or governmental organizations to recognize, eliminate, and control occupational health hazards and diseases.
Collects samples of dust, gases, vapors, and other potentially toxic materials for analysis. Investigates adequacy of ventilation, exhaust equipment, lighting, and other conditions that may affect employee health, comfort, or efficiency.
Prepares reports including observations, analysis of contaminants, and recommendations for control and correction of hazards.
Participates in educational meetings to instruct employees in matters pertaining to occupational health and prevention of accidents.
Supports programs and generalized occupational health support center functions. Manage relevant databases supporting occupational health programs.
Investigates employee indoor air quality concerns and work with facilities and maintenance personnel to remediate concerns.
Participates in facility design reviews of scientific research, including design, build-up, modification, and troubleshooting of ventilation systems for research utilizing combustible gasses, fuels, cryogenics. Using the ACGIH Ventilation Manual, offer recommendations for new ventilation design and perform calculations to recommend design requirements.
Supports facilities and research personnel with placement and verification of gas detection systems for toxic and otherwise hazardous gasses. Calculate potential for oxygen deficiency and chemical gas buildup in case of accidental compressed gas/cryogen release.

REQUIRED:

This position requires US Citizenship or Permanent Resident status due to the sensitivity of customer related information.
Must have an associate degree.
Must have 7+ years of recent and related work experience.
Must be certified as an USEPA / ODH Lead Safe Renovator.
Must be certified as an Asbestos Building Inspector/Management Planner (BI/MP).
Experience using the field instrumentation relevant to the position.
DESIRED:
Bachelor's degree plus 13 years of recent and related work experience and competency in the CORITY Occupational Health and Safety software application is preferred.
WORK LOCATION:
This position is located onsite at Glenn Research Center, Armstrong Test Facility in Sandusky
This position may require some travel.
BACKGROUND INVESTIGATIONS REQUIRED:

Regular attendance in accordance with an established work schedule is critical.
Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements.
