Responsibilities
Specifically, this position will focus on understanding the current processes in place for industrialization of our manufacturing tooling and actively participate, promote and transform these processes to be best in class. To do this they must create positive relationships with internal & external (supplier) stakeholders, develop talent, embrace a continuous improvement mindset, lead a team, manage day to day tasks and execute the strategy through regional Operations and local Manufacturing Leadership. They will create a global strategy for our industrial tooling, which will include a key focus around skills, equipment and resources required to design, fabricate, repair and maintain tools, dies, molds and precision components in the manufacturing facilities. The manager will champion an organized approach to conduct industry research and provide thought leadership in the field of industrial tooling to introduce new technologies that contribute to breakthrough innovation while ensuring efficiency and quality of our industrial tools. The role will be to provide expertise in industrial tooling into our new product development process to build manufacturability into our new product designs.
Engineering Manager I:
8 years relevant work experience
Expertise in tool and die manufacturing, precision machining, and knowledge of materials
Deep understanding of manufacturing operations, lean manufacturing, process metrics, Industry 4.0
Critical thinking, processing, and organizing facts, data, and other information to define a problem and develop effective solutions
Excellent decision making and problem-solving skills
Experience collaborating with and influencing cross-functional teams and key stakeholders
Demonstrated ability to build & deliver structured & compelling communications (both written and verbal) to sell a vision
Successful use of cost / benefit analysis and key financial drivers to justify significant capital programs, as well as monitoring their return
Passionate about designing, implementing, and maintaining efficient manufacturing processes, ensuring quality control of outputs, specifying equipment, crafting, and deploying monitoring protocols, and working in a high-performance and fast-paced environment
Ability to execute a strategy into operations
Thorough understanding and experience in managing change
Maintain the highest quality standards for all tools and fixtures under development, understand the criticality of robust technical offerings and accept nothing less than stable, robust, and resilient product/system deliverables
Own version control and release management processes ensuring that all releases have been properly vetted and tested prior to production release
Help promote a strong culture of quality within the company, push excellence across the organization and retain high standards for all MSA products/systems
Demonstrated ability to influence stakeholders
Engineering Manager II:
10 years relevant work experience, including a minimum of 2 years’ experience in direct staff management.
Experience in technology evaluations and road mapping.
Experience in annual portfolio planning processes and execution.
Detailed people resource forecasting, planning, & justification.
Strong understanding of product requirements, specifications, and design for manufacturability with a proven track record of developing tools to meet these requirements
Comfort navigating technical teams to drive root cause analysis on underperforming tools and fixtures
Qualifications
Required:
Bachelor’s degree in appropriate discipline required, preferably from an ABET accredited program.
Preferred:
Continuing education in management studies expected
Advanced degree
PMP or PE certification
Experience with advanced manufacturing applications such as: additive manufacturing, vision, scientific molding, logo & customization
Direct management experience in any of the following manufacturing environments: molding, machining, tool & die fabrication.
New Product Industrialization (NPI),
Design-for-Assembly / Manufacturing (DFM/A),
Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VA/VE)
