Job Description:

The School of Medicine is currently recruiting a Career Advisor in the Office of Academic Affairs. The Career Advisor is responsible for assisting students with providing unbiased information regarding career planning, career exploration, specialty descriptions, residency match process, ERAS, personal statements, curriculum vita development and alternative career option resources for MD's. The Career Advisor will develop, plan, implement, and evaluate career advising and guidance program that includes career, personal, and social development.



Daily Operations



Career Planning and Career Exploration


  • Advise about career exploration, including clarifying goals and priorities


  • Provide approaches to challenges and roadblocks that relate to career and professional development


  • Provide alternative pathways and/or time away from medical school to improve residency application competitiveness


  • Advise about career paths outside of clinical training


  • Facilitate of communication with/between residency advisors and/or other faculty mentors


  • Provide guidance on use of with the AAMC Careers in Medicine program,


  • Provide in the use of AAMC Careers in Medicine Specialty Pages


  • Assist in the match process with personal statement and curriculum vital preparation, and the ERAS system





Required Skills



  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.


  • Excellent interpersonal skills; must be able to interact with a wide range of learners, physicians and staff.


  • Ability to plan, organize, set and accomplish goals.


  • Knowledge of issues in affiliation and accreditation


  • Effective problem-solving skills.


  • A passion for students and commitment to professionalism.





Required Education and Experience



  • Bachelor of Science degree in Education or related field required.


  • Master's degree in Education or related field preferred.


  • Five years' experience with medical student and resident education at an LCME-accredited US medical school preferred


  • Experience with medical student education.
