Die Cast Engineer

Job Responsibilities

- Develop and implement process improvements for die casting operations, focusing on efficiency, quality, and cost reduction.

- Design and engineer die cast molds, including drafting, modeling, and simulations to ensure quality production.

- Oversee maintenance, setup, and troubleshooting of die cast machinery and equipment.

- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate die casting processes into the overall manufacturing system.

- Conduct root cause analysis for any defects in die cast parts and implement corrective actions.

- Coordinate with material suppliers to ensure high-quality alloys are used for casting.

- Assist in the development of budgets for the die casting department and monitor expenditures.

- Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for the die casting process to ensure targets are met.

- Provide technical guidance and training to die cast technicians and operators.

- Stay updated with the latest die casting technologies and industry trends to drive continuous improvement.

- Ensure that all die casting operations comply with safety regulations and environmental standards.

- Participate in the design review process and provide feedback on manufacturability of new products related to die casting.

- Manage projects related to new die cast equipment installation or existing equipment upgrades.

- Collaborate with quality assurance to develop inspection criteria for die cast parts.

- Document standard operating procedures (SOPs) and work


Job Requirements

- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical field

- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in die casting process engineering

- Proficient in the use of die casting simulation software

- Strong knowledge of die cast tooling design and maintenance

- Experience with aluminum and/or zinc die casting processes

- Familiarity with statistical process control (SPC) and process optimization techniques

- Understanding of metallurgy principles as they pertain to die casting alloys

- Ability to design and conduct experiments, as well as analyze and interpret data

- Proficiency in CAD software, such as AutoCAD or SolidWorks, for designing and modifying tooling and fixtures

- Experience with lean manufacturing principles and Six Sigma problem-solving methodology

- Knowledge of OSHA regulations and commitment to maintaining a safe work environment

- Strong project management skills, capable of leading projects from conception through to completion

- Excellent communication and teamwork skills for collaborating with cross-functional teams

- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve production issues related to die casting

- Willingness to work on the shop floor and provide hands-on engineering support when necessary

- Availability to work extra hours and be on-call for emergency situations, if required

Working Conditions

  • Standard work week is Monday through Friday, hours to be consistent with business unit; some off hours work may be expected.
  • Generally working in office with activities in the production environment.

Physical requirements

  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 40 pounds.
  • Standing, sitting and/or working at a computer for extended periods of time.
