ANATOMY & CELL BIOLOGY (IN-ANAT-IUINA)



Job Summary



Looking for an inquisitive Research Technician for the laboratory of Dr. Carol Witczak in the Department of Anatomy, Cell Biology and Physiology at the Indiana University School of Medicine. The goal of the Witczak Lab is to identify the mechanisms that control metabolism.


Department-Specific Responsibilities


  • Develops and conducts scientific research experiments by PCR, RT-qPCR, immunoblots, etc.

  • Works with laboratory research rodent models.

  • Documents research findings for use in scientific publications.

  • Participates in research group meetings.

  • Performs a variety of biochemical and molecular biology assays (e.g. immunoblots, PCR, enzyme activity, etc).

General Responsibilities


  • Performs a wide variety of complex experiments and reports results.

  • Keeps organized analytical data of performed experiments.

  • Provides support for equipment maintenance as needed.

  • Acts as a liaison to students and laboratory personnel for training.

  • Maintains laboratory supply requisition and management.

  • May train junior-level staff.

  • May help plan experiments or short-term goals.




Qualifications



EDUCATION



Required



  • Bachelor's degree in science (biology, physiology, biochemistry, or related field preferred).


Preferred



  • PhD degree within 2 years from date of hire.

WORK EXPERIENCE



Preferred



  • Experience working with laboratory research mice.

  • Experience with biochemical and molecular biology assays.

  • 1 year of general biomedical laboratory experience (chemical buffer preparation, pipetting, etc.) in a basic science research laboratory. This experience may be from lab courses taken during undergraduate education.

Working Conditions / Demands



The role regularly requires the ability to effectively communicate. The role frequently requires the ability to move about the work environment and to position oneself to operate laboratory equipment effectively. The role requires the ability to move objects weighing up to 25 pounds and will occasionally work near moving mechanical parts. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
