Job Description Summary

The Engineering Programs & Systems Manager is the lead for managing all programs and systems for Sonesta's Corporate Engineering organization. This includes: (1) Managing national account service programs and RFPs, such as elevator, waste, and fire systems, (2) Overseeing the administration and tracking all Engineering hotel programs and systems, such as guestroom preventative maintenance, capital expenditures, and ongoing projects/renovations in our hotels and (3) Analyzing key data and metrics to drive performance. The Engineering Programs & Systems Manager will work with and support the Regional Directors of Engineering in streamlining processes for improved efficiencies and productivity.

The ideal candidate has a passion for program oversight & collaboration, provides strong customer service, and constantly seeks to improve upon current situations through clear communication, accountability, and coaching. A strong background in hotel or facilities systems and preventative maintenance programs across typical building disciplines (i.e. HVAC, roofs, electrical, plumbing, etc.), as well as building management systems, is expected.

Job Description



  • Operational/Functional:

    • Responsible for all aspects of designated national account & portfolio-wide projects or programs, including control of scope, end to end schedule, when applicable, and budget.

    • Manage RFP process for designated national account categories and suppliers, including timeline, scope, bid review, and contract administration.

    • Manage third party vendors and national account partners, as required, setting clear expectations and accountability.

    • Manage Engineering reporting and data analytics to track key performance metrics across all managed programs (i.e. CapEx projects, preventative maintenance, vendor performance) through Transcendent

    • Systems administrator for all facilities & engineering systems (Transcendent, Automated Logic, Verdant, INNCOM, etc.) and project tracker data files.

    • Facilities coordinator for special projects and rollouts, as assigned

    • Assist with Capital Improvement Projects including budgeting, forecasting, bidding, selection of potential contractors, and follow up on approved projects.

    • Foster clear communications with key stakeholders and management of assigned properties




  • Strategy and Planning:

    • Develop, implement, and own strategies that will improve current maintenance practices and processes, driving better equipment uptime, lower repair costs, and improve overall total cost of ownership

    • Develop & manage procurement plan for national account and supplier RFP's

    • Review potential new systems, equipment, and programs and recommend for use to senior management and business unit partners

    • Develop maintenance benchmarking data / KPI's and analyze results to drive improvements across hotels, brands, and overall portfolio.

    • Coordinate quarterly business reviews and reporting with national account vendor partners

    • Actively participate and represent the Engineering team in conversions of new properties




  • Financial Management:

    • Manage annual budget guidance for managed expense categories and periodic inquiry reviews

    • Analyze accounting records and data for operating costs and variance reports of managed expense categories.

    • Identify opportunities to improve overall bottom line of Property, Operations and Maintenance expenditures




  • Managing your Team

    • Ensure colleagues and teams receive adequate training and communication for program rollouts and ongoing execution

    • Support, comply and promote company initiative, policies and guidelines.

Qualifications and Skills

A candidate for this position must possess the following applicable knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to demonstrate and provide applicable examples to support his/her competency.


  • 3+ years direct experience within the multi-site facilities industry, with working knowledge in the maintenance of mechanical, life/safety, electrical and plumbing operations of hotels or commercial buildings or hospitality leadership experience.

  • Track record of delivering exceptional support to colleagues, clients, customers and/or guests

  • Ability to prioritize and organize work assignments, and enforce hotel's standard policies, procedures, and programs

  • Ability to respond quickly and develop solutions for common inquiries, complaints, and urgent issues, and deal with a wide variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

  • Experience in working with and managing third party vendors, establishing partnerships as needed, and setting clear expectations and accountability

  • Effectively communicate with design professionals (internal & external), General Contractors, Sub-Contractors and Suppliers.

  • Working knowledge of life/safety systems, plumbing codes, electrical codes, national/local fire codes, local mechanical codes, water treatment program, blue prints/schematics.

  • Demonstrable expertise in analysis and action taking

  • Excellent oral and written communication

  • Appropriate professional appearance and demeanor

  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

  • Familiarity and experience using hotel & building systems (i.e. Transcendent, INNCOM, guestroom door locks, HVAC BMS, etc.)

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint & SmartSheet

  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering, facilities management, or equivalent experience

Pay Range

Pay Range: $100k to $115k. Base pay offer may vary depending on various factors, including but not limited to job related knowledge, skills and job specific/overall experience.
