Position Summary

Supervises, trains, and monitors the activities of assigned inside claims representatives, claims facilitators and other claims personnel.

The selected candidate will report to our Parkersburg Branch office The selected candidate will be required to obtain appropriate licensing.

Duties and Responsibilities

Manages overall operations of designated area of authority. Interviews, hires, trains and directs personnel. Prepares and conducts performance assessments, coordinates discipline and oversees Employee development as required.

Reviews files of claims personnel as necessary. Checks for coverage, adequate reserves and acts as a resource for answering claims questions.

Reviews claims correspondence and counsels claims personnel on further action as necessary. Provides additional services as required.

Establishes and monitors appropriate workflow and coordinates with branch offices.

Responds to inquiries from state insurance departments, Agents, branch personnel and Policyholders.

Reviews claims in process on a regular basis, according to review system. Takes action as necessary.

Maintains and applies a working knowledge of inside claims representatives and claims facilitator's files and assures compliance with procedures for a central operation.

Resolves coverage or unusual questions within designated authority. Conducts related research as necessary.

Duties and Responsibilities (cont'd if applicable)

Assists and supports catastrophic loss handling through mobilization and coordination of central claims personnel. Develops workflow table when necessary.

Monitors phone system capabilities for correct usage by Employees and identifies areas for improvement.

Receives and directs processing of legal papers served upon Policyholders involving claims action.

Maintains knowledge of negligence laws, claims handling practices and statutes for several different states.

Makes recommendations to and participates with claims manager in developing and evaluating claims procedures. Assists claims manager and may act on his/her behalf as necessary.

Qualifications

Education Equivalents High school diploma or GED and five years of previous claims handling experience required; or Associate's degree and three years of related claims handling experience required; or Bachelor's degree and two years of related claims handling experience required. Supervisory experience preferred. Completion of Associate in Claims (AIC) designation preferred. Appropriate license as required by state. Valid driver's license required.
