JOB SUMMARY:

The ORD Lab Manager supports the research and educational mission of the CECAS AuE undergraduate program by providing technical, and laboratory operations support. Responsible to work closely with AUE faculty and staff to provide the best hands-on student learning experiences and will work directly with students, professors, and AUE technical staff. Provides technical support to various undergraduate courses, including senior design projects and the Deep Orange program. Establishes relationships with collaborative industry partners and build integrative experiences with local technical education programs. Other duties as assigned.

JOB DUTIES:

60% - Essential - Class Laboratory Preparation and Set-up:
Provides teaching and operational support for AuE lab classes. This will include curriculum design and assignments to accomplish learning objectives aligned with AuE undergraduate requirements. Installs equipment and obtains necessary materials, tools, and items needed for the labs. Assists instructors and students in installing, calibrating, and completing instrumentation set-ups for lab classes. Supports faculty in running the lab classroom experiences, including teaching laboratory lessons. Completes instrumentation and data acquisition setups, for classes if not complete by students as requested by instructor. Serves as subject matter expert (SME) for each of the laboratory experience technology, processes, and equipment.

20% - Essential - Faculty, Staff, Student Support:
Assists faculty, staff, and students in support of academic laboratory activities. Instructs and directs students in the safe operation of shop and laboratory equipment. Establishes relationships with local technical school programs for interdisciplinary project opportunities and collaboration of equipment use for the most economical approach to accomplishment of the academic objectives. Have the ability to provide teaching support in the areas such as of mechatronics, PLC, CNC, traditional metal forming, welding, sensors and electronics, robotics, GD&T, and metrology. Supports and creates learning experiences that will enhance understanding of engineering fundamentals.

10% - Essential - Equipment Maintenance:
Performs maintenance on educational, testing, and research equipment ,and maintains detailed maintenance and calibration records. Performs diagnostics on, and repair of mechanical and electronic equipment to support the lab classes. Identifies damaged equipment and components, and manages budgetary requests for replacements. Maintains a current inventory of sensors, cables, consumables, and supplies for lab classes. Makes recommendations for replacement and updated equipment. Prepares annual expense budget for required items to support labs and equipment, and anticipates future technology requirements.

10% - Essential - General Support:
Assist faculty, staff, and students in support of research activities. Provides input as needed in the development of technical research proposals. Provides support and guidance to the Deep Orange (student vehicle prototyping) program. Provides assistance in preparing for lab tours and events, including moving vehicles, staging of equipment, and other items as directed.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Associate's Degree In Science (A.S.); Electronics, Mechatronics, or Mechanical Engineering Technology related field.
Licenses: Drivers License Class D normal Work Experience: 1+ years

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Advanced Manufacturing

Certifications: OSHA-30, First-Aid/CPR/AED, Stop-the-Bleed, Run, Hide, Fight

Work Experience: 5+ years

RESPONSIBILITIES:

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
