Location/Division Specific Information



The Team Leader for Antibody Production (Madison, WI) reports to the Sr. Manager of manufacturing and Operations (Madison, WI) and is a key partner in the manufacturing and operations function, giving to an organization of approximately 25+ employees and $7M+ product and service revenue. This position is a member of the operations team responsible for cell-based manufacturing and services. This position is responsible for providing technical expertise, completing projects, and performing work orders.

The Team Leader for antibody production is a critical component for influencing and motivating direct reports to tackle new challenges realize their full potential, and ultimately facilitate a positive and engaging work environment. This individual will have the ability to lead development plans and use cross-functional relationships to realize department objectives in alignment with the organizational goals set. This individual will function as a technical leader and manufacturing scientist for an operations team responsible for cell-based products and services. The position will also be encouraged to perform functional QC on products and apply critical thinking to resolve discrepancies. This individual is a role model leader who drives safety, adheres to the regulations of our Quality Management System, and drives continuous improvement strategies.



Essential Functions:





  • Daily management of the hourly team to accomplish operations objectives.

  • Management of schedule and key metrics for product manufacturing and custom project deliverables.

  • Complete work and ensure that cell provisioning meets customer requirements. Management of cell-based product manufacturing including cell culture, QC process and data analysis, and planning for schedule and materials. Maintain multiple cell lines in a variety of cell backgrounds using aseptic technique.

  • Demonstrate thought leadership. Find opportunities for improvement and minimize errors by applying technical skills and critical thinking.

  • Complete work orders according to protocol and analyze data using data analysis templates and manufacturing batch records.

  • Communication across multiple teams to eliminate barriers and ensure alignment with upstream and downstream business partners.

  • Support new product integration by participating in the planning and validation of new products and equipment.

  • Participate in root cause analysis and drive continuous improvement.

  • Supervise inventory levels of raw materials to support production schedule. Perform lab support functions including reagent preparation and routine equipment maintenance.

  • Maintain complete and detailed documentation including manufacturing batch records, writing SOPs, and updating existing documents as processes change.

  • Respond quickly to changing priorities and can prioritize multiple projects with potentially overlapping deadlines to meet customer expectations.

  • Demonstrate leadership by communicating a solution-minded approach to solving complex problems. Apply critical thinking to design and complete cell-based custom protocols. Use thought leadership to conceptualize and conduct assay protocols to deliver high-quality data to customers.

  • Work independently and prioritize accordingly to achieve tasks. Exhibit good time management skills to prioritize multiple projects across numerous technologies ensuring project completion within the allotted timeframe.

  • Adopt the role of a Technical Coach, demonstrating strong emotional intelligence and leadership as you develop others using your technical subject matter expertise.


How will you get here?



Education


  • Requires a Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or other related field, or equivalent knowledge and experience. An advanced degree is a plus.

Experience


  • Requires 5+ years of laboratory experience with a BS or MS degree, or 2+ years with a PhD.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities


  • Strong leadership and decision-making ability.

  • Experience with adherent and suspension cell cultures, preferably mammalian and insect backgrounds in an antibiotic-free environment.

  • Experience with manufacturing in bioreactors and use of Tangential Flow Filtration is helpful.

  • Familiarity with ISO-9001 Quality Management System or similar is helpful.

  • Experience with life sciences industry, high-throughput screening, fluorescence-based assays, and drug discovery is preferred.

  • Interacts with subordinates, peers, superiors, suppliers, and customers daily.

  • < 5% travel.
