Job Summary/Basic Function:
The Research Compliance Coordinator supports the development, operation, and administration of the university's Biosafety and Animal Care and Use programs including the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) and Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC).
Department Overview:
The Office of Research Compliance (ORC) provides assistance to faculty, staff, and students in certain areas of research and some academic activities to comply with federal, state, and local laws/regulations as well as certain sponsor requirements and University policies. We are seeking a Research Compliance Coordinator to support the development, operation, and administration of the university's Biosafety and Animal Care and Use programs, including the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) and Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) at Boise State University. This position is hybrid-eligible.
Level Scope:
Fully competent and productive professional contributor who applies acquired job skills, policies, and procedures to complete substantive assignments/projects/tasks of moderate scope and complexity. Works independently with general supervision; exercises judgment within defined guidelines and practices to determine appropriate action. May provide guidance and assistance to entry level professionals and/or support employees.
Essential Functions:
60% of Time the Position must:

  • Supports interpretation and research of regulatory rules and regulations, sponsor requirements, and university policies to guide and update the university's Biosafety and Animal Care and Use programs and review processes.
  • Supports development, maintenance, and implementation of the Biosafety program and IBC processes including policies, written programs, guidance, standard operating procedures, training, emergency response plans, and regulatory and accreditation materials.
  • Supports development, maintenance and implementation of the Animal Care and Use program and IACUC processes. This includes policies, written programs, guidance, standard operating procedures, training, emergency response plans, and regulatory and accreditation materials.
  • Assists in the preparation of technical reports and other communications to be shared with Federal, State and Public entities as well as accrediting bodies.
  • Performs preliminary and administrative reviews and coordination of committee reviews of submissions to the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) and Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC).
  • Coordinates IACUC and IBC meetings and provides administrative support to both committees.
  • Serves as a liaison between researchers and the IACUC and IBC to resolve review issues.
  • Works closely with a variety of others on campus such as the Attending Veterinarian, animal facility staff, and Lab Safety office on program development, administration, and assessment.
  • Communicates professionally with the university community, other universities, federal agencies, and sponsors.
  • Diligently handles sensitive and/or confidential information, documentation, communication, and issues.
  • Conducts post-approval monitoring to assess compliance.
35% of the Time the Position must:
  • Supports management of the occupational health and safety program.
  • Conducts presentations and training on biosafety and animal care and use requirements and IACUC and IBC review processes.
  • Supports the InfoEd system with a focus on the Biosafety and Animal Care modules to update forms, processes, and metrics.
  • Develops and maintains job aids for InfoEd focused on the Biosafety and Animal Care modules.
  • Supports maintaining the Research Compliance website to communicate information on research compliance programs and support.
5% of Time the Position must:
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
  • General knowledge of the regulatory requirements (federal, state, accreditor) for Biosafety and Animal Care and Use
  • Ability to interpret rules, regulations, and policies for use in programs and processes
  • Ability to prioritize workload with sharp attention to detail including due dates
  • Ability to manage concurrent reviews
Minimum
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent - General Field
  • Experience - 2 years relevant experience or equivalent professional experience
