Location: Any Avangrid office in New York, Connecticut, or Maine


The base salary range for this position is $107,254 to $139,431 and is dependent upon experience.



Job Summary



The Smart Metering Department with Avangrid's Operational Smart Grids organization is responsible for strategy, enterprise planning, operation, and compliance of metering systems and networks covering over 1 million meters, primarily Advanced Metering Infrastructure ("AMI" or smart meters), currently across the states of Maine and Connecticut. AMI is considered a foundational technology for grid modernization. Central Maine Power, a subsidiary of Avangrid, Inc., serves over 636,000 retail electric customers in central and southern Maine. This position reports to the Regional Manager for Smart Metering's Maine-based operations and will work with the team to develop and implement solutions for the AMI Head-End System (HES), AMI network, Meter Data Management System (MDM), MV-90 xi system, and other applications in support of business requirements. The selected person will join a team of technical systems and metering experts and will collaborate with metering peers in Connecticut and New York and other groups across Avangrid, including Corporate IT, Telecommunications, Control & Automation Systems, Electric Operations, Customer Service, and Innovation.



Major Responsibilities



  • Lead cross-functional projects using advanced data modeling and analysis techniques to discover insights that will guide strategic decisions and uncover optimization opportunities. Use expert-level knowledge of AMI infrastructure and process flow to collaborate with business clients to propose and outline changes or improvements to both the technical and functional levels of AMI systems

  • Build, develop, and maintain data models, reporting systems, data automation systems, dashboards, and performance metrics support that support key business decisions. Works with Smart Metering management to ensure AMI system administration is executed at the optimal level for current business needs with proper resourcing, etc.

  • Design and delivery of reports and insights that analyze business functions and key operations and performance metrics.

  • Manage and optimize processes for data intake, validation, mining, and engineering as well as modeling, visualization and communication deliverables.

  • Oversee the data/report requests process: tracking requests submitted, prioritization, approval, etc.

  • Lead and facilitate training plans and knowledge transfer for new or junior level team members to foster continuity on the team

  • Provide accurate and comprehensive analysis to management as needed to aid in setting team direction and strategy




Qualifications





  • Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science, Finance, or Statistics with at least 10 years of experience preferred but not required.

  • Advanced knowledge of Information/Operations Technology design and implementation required

  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams to drive solutions to complex problems or projects.

  • Solid technical background with experience in six or more of the following preferred:

    • Technical hardware architecture

    • Linux/Unix Operating System

    • Networking and topology/understanding of high-level network and security concepts, radio networks, firmware updates, Zigbee wireless protocols in and around 802.1x, FCC regulations

    • Network functionality and tools including SSH, traceroute, ping, understanding of DHCP, VPN technologies, firewall concepts, and architecture

    • Relational DBMS (i.e., Oracle/SQL Server/MySQL)

    • Windows Server OS and creating .NET web services running on Microsoft's IIS

    • Bash/Perl/Python scripting and/or JAVA on Linux

    • ESRI and JavaScript

    • AMI Head-end Systems, Meter Data Management Systems, MV-90 xi, and/or related metering systems



  • Experience with SAP required

  • Analytical, troubleshooting, and process improvement experience preferred

  • The ability to demonstrate good communication skills both written and oral. This communication would be with team members, others' departments, regulating authorities, and leadership locally and abroad. required

  • Ability to maintain multiple tasks and manage expectations required

  • Demonstrated track record of expert-level knowledge of AMI, building cross-functional relationships with key stakeholders, and overseeing the resolution of complex technical issues required

  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite and other business analytical tools required

  • Ability to maintain the integrity of data during extraction, storage, manipulation, and processing required

  • Knowledge of electric and/or gas utility operations required

  • Previous work experience in IT, operational telecom, network or systems engineering, or metering operations required

  • PMP Certification preferred
