Responsibilities

We seek a highly motivated entry-level or experienced utility engineer to join our team. As a utility engineer, you will assist in analyzing plans, performing field work, mapping existing utilities and managing utility conflict resolutions to support the construction of TxDOT projects. This is an excellent opportunity to apply your engineering knowledge in a practical and impactful way, contributing to developing sustainable and resilient communities. In this role, the selected applicant will:

  • Work on small and large roadway and bridge projects with the focus of executing utility clearance before construction begins.
  • Perform existing utility investigations by engaging in field visits to make note of above ground utility facilities and markers and contacting utility companies for record drawings and documents.
  • Collaborate with senior staff to develop utility layout drawings.
  • Interface with subconsultants and clients to meet deadlines.
  • Analyze roadway and bridge design plans to identify conflicts with existing utilities.
  • Collaborate with utility companies to communicate conflicts. This is usually done by marking up plans, creating CAD drawings and developing KMZs among other equivalent methods.
  • Assist utility companies and clients with proper utility relocations along with correct documentation.
  • Provide utility engineering support for in-house roadway and bridge design teams.



  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or technical degree from an accredited four-year college or university.
  • Any amount of experience in this field or related area will be considered.
  • Basic understanding of roadway construction.
  • Ability to learn Microstation/Open Roads Designer CAD software, previous experience is a plus.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to perform field visits.
  • Outgoing personality is needed to collaborate with utility companies and clients to relay important information.
  • A go-getter mentality is necessary to progress utility relocation development by utility companies and their sub-providers.
  • Organization is key when working with numerous different projects.
