In support of a dynamic U.S. Navy Directorate specializing in design, research, development, testing, and evaluation of experimental watercraft for its DoD clients, we provide full-spectrum Operations and Maintenance (O&M) services of various combatant craft, patrol boats, Special Operations Forces platforms and coastal craft, ensuring performance and fleet readiness.


SA-TECH is currently looking to hire a part-time Welder at our site at V47 at Carderock on Naval Station Norfolk to design, fabricate, and prototype metalwork assemblies for US Navy experimental and specialized small watercraft. In this role, you will perform MIG, TIG, brazing, and arc welding in accordance with NAVSEA 0900-LP-060-4010 series standards.


The following job functions are basic requirements (but other duties may be assigned as well):

  • Assists in structural repair of various equipment, platforms, and components.
  • Performs welding, bending and machining of steel, aluminum or plastics.
  • Work includes cross-utilization into other positions that fall within our scope of work.
  • Read blueprints, sketches, drawings and work orders and utilize them to design and produce quality fabrications and prototypes.
  • Perform all work safely in accordance with industry standards and best practices.

Work Conditions:

  • May be required to work first shift (0700-1530) or second shift (0830-1700).
  • Work is accomplished in an industrial environment where temperatures will vary depending on location.
  • Conditions typically include 45% standing, 25% walking, 20% sitting, 5% reaching, and 5% lifting.
  • Must be capable of lifting 50 pounds.
  • Shift hours may vary due to mission requirements and may be assigned on short notice.
  • Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for work tasks assigned.
Requirements:

Education/Experience/Skills:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • U.S. Navy, Coast Guard, OEM, or related trade school training preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of direct experience as a welder.
  • Current state-issued Driver's License required; must be able to be insured through company's vehicle insurance policy while driving work/government/rental vehicles during working hours, and for the duration of employment.
  • U.S. Citizenship required and you must be able to obtain a U.S. DoD Secret Security Clearance prior to start date and maintain a Secret clearance throughout employment.
  • All candidates will be required to pass background screening to include SSN, Driver Record, and Criminal Background Investigation.
  • All candidates must pass a pre-employment physical to include Physical, Drug Screen, Vision & Hearing testing, Medical Condition Certification and a back x-ray.
