Registered Nurse (RN), Day Shift, Same Day Surgery

UC Health is hiring a full-time Registered Nurse (RN) for the same day surgery for the first shift at West Chester Hospital.

The Same Day Surgery Nurse will support West Chester Hospital's surgery center and Level III Trauma Center, delivering high-quality care to patients based on assessed needs, established standards of care and according to policy and procedures. Our OR sees about 25-30 cases a day made up heavily of regular surgery and orthopedic surgery. These nurses perform pre-op care and assessment for all outpatient pre-ops and patients to be admitted.

Education and Experience Requirements:


  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing
  • Associate's Degree, minimum required
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing, preferred
  • Current OH RN License
  • 3-5 years of MedSurg experience, minimum required
  • 1-2 years of ICU experience, preferred

The Registered Nurse (RN) is an individual who holds a current state license to practice nursing. The practice of nursing requires specialized knowledge, judgment, and skills to provide care to groups and individuals. The RN utilizes knowledge derived from the principles of biological, physical, behavioral, social and nursing sciences to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care. The care is culturally based and age-specific.


  • Prepares, implements, evaluates, revises and coordinates interdisciplinary plan of care for each assigned patient in a collaborative effort with the other healthcare team members and patient/family within the time frame indicated by unit's standards of practice.
  • Communicates formulated plan of care, as appropriate, to all levels of associates involved in the patient's care and demonstrates ability to establish priorities of care based on patient's assessment and needs.
  • Gives clear instructions to patients/family regarding treatment, and involves family/guardian in the assessment, initial treatment, and continuing care of the patient.
  • Identifies and responds appropriately to different patient needs resulting from behavioral health problems, unique psychological needs or those associated with religious/cultural norms.
  • Demonstrates critical thinking, accountability, flexibility, and a cooperative attitude in meeting the needs of the unit.
  • The nursing process is accurately and concisely documented, including evaluation of treatment and in accordance with hospital policy and procedure.
  • Acts as a resource person and mentor for new personnel, floater, and/or supplemental staff working on the unit.
  • Assumes responsibility for personal professional development and contributes to the professional development of peers, colleagues, and others.
