Job Description:

Position Summary


The manager is responsible for the accounting and financial reporting as it relates to the various Carlyle parent and operating entities including but not limited to broker-dealers, joint ventures, investment holding companies, payroll entities, and other special purpose entities. Position requires (1) experience in a large and growing global firm, (2) ability to adapt to a fast growing environment and to solve complex issues, (3) skill in managing and motivating a team, (4) aptitude in interpreting complex agreements and determining applicable accounting treatment, (5) a strong understanding of accounting information systems, which includes envisioning/sponsoring incremental improvements in functionality, (6) solid organizational and analytical skills, and (7) ability to develop and build relationships across departments and with all levels.


The manager is responsible for the day to day activities of the team, including time management, delegation, deadlines and deliverables, as well as anticipating and managing issues as they arise. The manager is responsible for (1) overseeing the financial close process, (2) oversee monthly and quarterly account reconciliations, (3) ensuring adherence to firm policies, SOX controls, and applicable contractual agreements, (4) overseeing internal and external audits and reviews by responding to audit requests, preparing PBC deliverables, and assisting in walkthrough documentation, (5) explaining budget variances and participating in forecast preparation, (6) managing ongoing communication and reporting to inter- and intra-departmental leadership on such areas.


The manager is also responsible for ad hoc and on-going projects, which include (1) managing and reviewing ad-hoc information requests, (2) leading various projects that are vital to firm, (3) developing training materials, (4) creating efficiencies through process improvement and technology.


This position requires a strong aptitude in information systems and data processing as information must be processed quickly and accurately, often in high volumes and on very tight schedules. Further, this role will serve as a mentor and example to Senior and Staff Accountants and will be called upon to train and review the work of others in the department. Substantially all responsibilities will involve Excel and PeopleSoft. Essential attributes include attention to detail, a willingness to help train junior team members, and a desire to own processes and tasks as assigned.



Responsibilities



Education & Certificates





  • Bachelor's Degree, required

  • Concentration in Accounting, AIS or a related field, preferred

  • CPA candidate preferred.




Professional Experience





  • Strong educational background in accounting or a related field

  • 5+ years of relevant accounting experience, required

  • Developed knowledge of GAAP, required

  • Knowledge of private equity industry, preferred.

  • Experience with global operations.

  • Ability to adapt to a fast growing environment and to solve complex issues.

  • Experience managing the day to day activities of a team, as well as performance evaluations and feedback.

  • Ability to interpret complex agreements, including but not limited to service agreements and partnership agreements.

  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, functional knowledge of Microsoft Word and Outlook, and strong understanding of accounting information systems (project costing a plus)

Qualifications



Daily and Monthly Activities (60% of time):





  • Conduct planning sessions with the team to ensure tasks are delegated to the appropriate resources and resources are used to their fullest capabilities and capacity. Conduct regular status updates with the team to ensure delays are mitigated and escalated when necessary.

  • Anticipate and manage issues as they arise, use judgement in determining course of action, and closely communicate with stakeholders to fulfil dependencies.

  • Oversee the financial close process to ensure all deadlines are met and the results are free from any material misstatement.


    • Prepare and review monthly and quarterly reports.

    • Review and approve transactional activity and reconciliations.

    • Perform analytical tasks, such as reviewing trending reports and expense analysis for possible miscoding and work with team to make necessary corrections.

    • Collaborate and coordinate with CA, EAs and other department as necessary to ensure proper recording and coding of transactions.

    • Identify general ledger coding errors by reviewing general ledger detail for


  • Carlyle operating entities, including assistance with departmental variance analysis and build control to minimize the risk.

  • Enforce adherence to firm policies, SOX controls, service agreements and any other applicable controls or agreements.




Quarterly and Annual Activities (20% of time):





  • Liaison between firm and internal/external auditors to ensure audit requests are delivered accurately, complete and timely. Respond to questions and open items.

  • Liaison for legal and external reviewers, such as investors, governmental agencies or other third parties, to ensure review requests are delivered accurately, complete and timely. Respond to questions and open items.

  • Prepare reports and analysis for auditors and department managers to satisfy audit and reporting requirements.

  • Oversee reconciliations or other support to enable auditors to test internal controls over financial reporting.

  • Manage research and explain departmental budget variances and identify general ledger miscoding and resolve issue.

  • Oversee quarterly and annual financial statement completion for various stand-alone entities affiliated with firm.




Special Projects (10% of time):





  • Manage and deliver ad hoc reporting requests,.

  • Lead efforts to address and resolve issues that require significant research and collaboration with various teams.

  • Assist in reviewing new transactions and arrangements to determine proper accounting and efficient processes and procedures for recording investments, earnouts, intangible assets, and other aspects. Communicate those processes and procedures to impacted teams..

  • Liaise with other departments to improve process accuracy and efficiency. Work with department to identify opportunities for improvement.




Other Functions (10% of time):





  • Lead goal setting sessions with team members, provide regular mentoring, feedback, and perform performance reviews.

  • Develop inter and intra departmental training materials and facilitate training of new and existing employees on policies and processes.

  • Develop and document processes and procedures.

  • Develop and build relationships across departments to facilitate information share and build trust.

  • Create efficiencies through the development of improved processes, utilization of available technology and sufficient training.
