Position Title: Tutor - Pima County Jail and Pima Juvenile Detention Center (Temporary, Part-Time, up to 19.5 hours per week)
Department: Downtown Campus- Adult Basic Education for College and Career. Locations: CAPE School within the Pima County Juvenile Center and Pima County Jail.
Rate of Pay: $14.35 - $18.85/hour
Closed Date: May 16, 2024; 5:00PM Arizona Time
Position Summary:
Working in the CAPE School located in the Pima County Juvenile Center and/or Pima County Jail, the successful candidate will assist students in developing comprehension in the subject coursework and improve study skills and habits. Tutoring is provided either through one-on-one tutoring sessions, group tutoring sessions, or embedded in classes.
Subjects needed include: Mathematics, Reading, and Writing; multiple subjects preferred.
The hourly rate is based on CRLA certification level.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist students by providing instructional tutoring and assistance with basic concepts, specific problems, homework, test preparation, and the most effective use of textbooks and instructional materials
- Provide students with appropriate and effective study skills to increase their academic success and independence
- Provide students encouragement and support in the areas of self-confidence, study habits, and time management
- Report to the ABECC leadership any problems or concerns with equipment or materials
- Establish effective and cooperative relationships with diverse student and employee populations
Job Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Proven classroom excellence (grade A or B) in the subject(s) or passing score on GED Subject tests to be tutored
Additional Job Requirements:
- Pass a Pima College background check and obtain an Identity Verified Prints (IVP) fingerprint clearance card and
- Pass security background checks for the Pima County Juvenile Center and Pima County Jail
Preferred:
- Tutoring experience
- Comfort tutoring multiple subjects
