Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm



JOB SUMMARY


Responsible for the development, implementation and administration of multiple academic support services and programs within a framework of cultural responsiveness which honors the dignity of all students. Key components will include administrative, coaching/mentoring, and instructional responsibilities.



RESPONSIBILITIES



Essential Functions:




  1. Conditional Admittance Functions



  • Responsible for documenting and monitoring conditionally-admitted students academic progress and establishing a plan of academic accountability throughout their first two semesters

  • Oversee and monitor the class schedules of all conditionally-admitted students in order to verify appropriate enrollment in Strategy courses and/or English and Math sections

  • Interface with the SNU Admissions and Registrars offices to assure appropriate entry and placement of conditionally-admitted students

  • Serve as an instructor for the strategy course sequence and work with the AVP for Student Success to plan course curriculum (e.g. evaluate curriculum and select texts, secure adjunct instructors when needed, etc.)

  • Review the interface of Strategies courses with other entry-level courses and suggest appropriate modifications to optimize student learning.




  1. Undeclared Advising Functions



  • Serve as an Academic Advisor for undeclared majors during the New Student Institute, Enrollment Periods, and/or Priority Enrollment Events

  • Provide resources and make referrals for undeclared majors seeking career and major coursework direction.




  1. Academic Standing Functions



  • Responsible for creating and managing the academic warning and suspension system database/files

  • Create and implement the academic engagement contract distribution process with students on warning/suspension throughout the enrollment process

  • Counsel students on academic probation concerning academic, behavioral, and personal issues; refer as needed

  • Analyze academic probation/conditional policies and prepare recommendations to the AVP for Student Success regarding new or established procedures.

  • Interface with various departments on campus to help ensure terms of academic engagement contracts are being met and carry out the work of academic support




  1. General Academic Support



  • Respond to retention alerts and assist all students with academic/personal support needs, either during scheduled appointment times or on a walk in basis and virtually during summer session(s).

  • Work with the Asst. Athletic Director for Compliance to deliver quarterly grade reports to coaches and other key athletic personnel and intervene with those in critical situations

  • Work with the Center for Learning Innovation (CLI) to develop and maintain a canvas course featuring a variety of workshops for students placed on academic probation and/or conditionally admitted (student success related topics).

    • Topics may include, but limited to: Reading/Vocabulary, Writing/Grammar, Listening/Speaking/Social Engagement, Cultural Awareness, University Study Strategies Course Modules, and Resource Awareness.



  • Pursue external funding opportunities to enhance services.




  1. Supervise Student Workers



  • Oversee Peer Writing Tutors and Subject-area tutoring for TRAD students.

  • Work with the AVP for Student Success to identify appropriate courses for tutoring.

  • In partnership with faculty and department chairs, recruit, select, and train peer tutors.

  • Prepare and execute monthly training opportunities for Peer Tutors.

  • Prepare and execute marketing strategy and/or materials to promote Writing & Tutoring Services before the start of the Fall and Spring semesters.

  • Track and assess tutoring usage and effectiveness. Consult with AVP for Student Success any necessary adjustments during the semester.

  • Recruit, hire and supervise Student Workers that serve as Front Desk Support within the Center for Student Success.




  1. General Administrative Functions



  • Prepare various reports and requests for information from the AVP for Student Success and Center for Student Success team members.

  • Responsible for the interpretation and communication of university policies and procedures to students, families, faculty, administrators and the general public.

  • Attend all Student Success team meetings.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the AVP for Student Success.

Qualifications


Required Qualifications:



  • Southern Nazarene University is an expression of the Church of the Nazarene.   • An understanding of the importance for diversity, inclusion and equity

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field

  • Possess strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to prioritize multiple demands in fast paced work environment

  • Typing and spelling competency

  • Experience with various computer software applications

  • Data entry experience



Preferred Qualifications:



  • Master's degree in a related field preferred.

  • Experience in higher education and/or 2-4 years of academic support and program development experience.



Supervision Received:


Receives supervision and work assignments from a designated supervisor, although other staff members in the unit may provide work direction.



Supervision Exercised:


May be responsible for the coordination of work assignments for student employees.
