Seeking highly motivated and organized individuals for a part-time, as needed, alternate boat captain/first mate on board the RV Apalachee, a 65-ft (80 ton), twin engine research vessel. The position will require abilities for precise vessel maneuvering, extensive nighttime work, and deployment of a variety of oceanographic equipment and fishing gears. Most of the boat operation will take place in coastal and offshore waters from Florida to Louisiana, from shallow water depth to 3000m. Cruises typically range from one to seven days in length, though longer cruises (with port-days) are possible. The position reports to the Boat Captain.
Responsibilities include:
Assisting the first captain in the vessel maintenance
Accommodating research equipment loading, hookup, and deployment
Working and handling the vessel at night and stand for night watches.

Anticipated Salary Range is $25 per hour.
