Job Summary/Basic Function


The Management and Marketing Department at times needs temporary part-time Instructors to fill in for faculty on sabbaticals or leaves.



The purpose of this posting is to generate a pool of qualified faculty. Applications submitted will be reviewed on an as needed basis based on enrollment. Anyone meeting the qualifications may be contacted for an interview and potentially hired when a need exists. In the event that you are interviewed but not hired, your application will remain in the departments pool of qualified faculty.
The Management & Marketing Department is one of the largest at MU, with over 450 students enrolled in our core programs. In addition to Management and Marketing programs, the department offers the B.S. degree in Information Technology with option/path selections: General Degree in Information Technology, and Cybersecurity, with over 60 students enrolled. The INTE program offers minors in Information Technology and Cybersecurity as well.


Modality is either face-to-face classes days/evenings or online. In addition to teaching, there is an expectation for scholarship and service commensurate with the assignment.Courses available for teaching in this position include but are not limited to: “Fundamentals of IT”, “Fundamentals of Web Technology”, “IT Project Management”, “IT Risk Management and Security”, “Advanced Computer Networking”, “Cybersecurity”, and “IT Security, Privacy, and Ethics”.

Required Qualifications


  • Master’s degree in Information Technology or closely related field.
  • Teaching experience.
  • Proficiency, knowledge, and experience in at least one of the course topics available for teaching in this position.
  • Evidence of ability to successfully teach diverse student populations.
  • Successful interview.
  • Successful teaching demonstration.
  • Successful completion of three background checks.





Preferred Qualifications


  • Doctorate or “all but dissertation” in Information Technology or closely related field.
  • Available to teach in-person courses.





Job Description


TEACHING AND PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:Teach pertinent course subjects using lectures, demonstrations, class discussion, and other appropriate modes of educational delivery. Prepare course outline and prepare syllabus, develop course and lesson plans, engage in the selection of textbooks and other teaching aids necessary to the instruction of courses. All course materials must follow departmental requirements. Lead and monitor classroom instruction in a fashion consistent with faculty academic freedom and responsibility. Hold regularly scheduled office hours.


Part-time faculty members shall maintain a prorated number of office hours each week, at a minimum of twenty-five (25) minutes for each workload hour taught, at such days, times and locations as will accommodate the needs of the students.


This position is contingent upon sufficient enrollments in assigned classes.

Essential Functions


  • For course taught in an in-person modality, work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
  • For course taught in an in-person modality, ability to:
    • sit or stand while teaching.
    • speak clearly.
    • communicate via writing exceptionally well
    • understand verbal communication (read and understand verbal messages).
    • use construction tools safey.
    • move to and from campus buildings, offices, classrooms and stage areas.
    • climb ladders.
    • stoop or bend to pick things up.




  • For course taught in an in-person modality, must be able to lift/pull/push up to 10 pounds without assistance.

    • lift student paper bundles, small boxes, scene shop equipment and materials.

  • For course taught in an in-person modality , must be able to occasionally lift/pull/push heavier items with assistance.
  • Teach courses at the higher education level using lectures, demonstrations, class discussion, using online tools and/or equipment and/or other appropriate tools appropriate modes of education delivery.
  • Able to record and calculate grades, prepare course outline and syllabus, develop course and lesson plans, engage in the selection of appropriate textbooks and other teaching aids necessary to the delivery of instruction.
  • Use computer for email, obtain information on websites, prepare class documents, grade papers, submit final grades online and other duties related to teaching and advising students and serving the department, college, university and community.
  • No or very limited exposure to physical risks.
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and mouse.
