Assistant Professor: Near Surface Geophysics



 

The Boone Pickens School of Geology (BPSoG) at Oklahoma State University invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position in near surface geophysics. The anticipated start date is August 15, 2024. The successful applicant must have a Ph.D. degree in geosciences or a related field at the time of appointment. Postdoctoral experience is preferred. The school encourages applications from candidates from underrepresented groups in geosciences.We are seeking a near surface geophysicist proficient in modern theory and methods, including the integration and synthesis of geologic and geophysical data into the Earth's near surface analysis, field data collection and analysis, and modeling in areas such as seismic, gravity, electrical resistivity, ground penetration radar, and magnetic / electromagnetic. Capabilities for teaching introductory and advanced geophysics courses and related courses are required. Additionally, it is desirable for the candidate to have experience in online education, and to contribute to teaching field geophysics in our summer field camp.The successful candidate is expected to develop a vigorous, innovative, externally funded research program, contribute to undergraduate and graduate teaching and supervise M.S. and Ph.D. students. Candidates will be expected to support the learning needs of students from diverse backgrounds and demonstrate a commitment to engaging communities underrepresented in the geosciences. The successful candidate will collaborate as part of a diverse faculty with specialties spanning geosciences and core strengths in disciplines relating to energy and the environment. Collaborations with interdisciplinary programs are also encouraged such as with our Professional Science Master's program that has a track in Geophysics.The BPSoG has state-of-the-art laboratories equipped with analytical instruments and computer hardware and software to facilitate learning and research in the school's areas of specialization. The school has equipment for geophysical field acquisition, a core facility for processing samples, well-equipped geochemistry, and microscopy laboratories, and it operates a field camp facility near Cañon City, Colorado. The School is well equipped with an instructional computer lab that hosts workstations with dual monitors and industry standard state-of-the-art software packages for processing, modelling and interpreting geophysical data.
