(Contingent upon available funding): 41,775.00 - 52,850.00, Salary Work Schedule: 9-5 with exceptions for special events and breaking news events. Faculty Appt Period: Job Summary:

KOSU seeks a multimedia journalist to work as an Indigenous Affairs Reporter. The ideal candidate will have an established portfolio of reporting on Indigenous issues or another beat that demonstrates an ability to tell nuanced and engaging stories. Public radio experience is a plus but is not required. The person will be an accomplished reporter who is eager to build community around Indigenous reporting, including engagement activities. In addition, the candidate should have experience building trusting relationships in news deserts and/or with populations of people who may have previous negative experience with traditional media.


News reporting will often require travel. The person is expected to be on call for breaking news events. Occasional work after hours or on weekends will be required.


Person must have ability to walk long distances while carrying broadcast equipment weighing 10 pounds.

Minimum Qualifications:


Bachelor's Degree in Mass Communication, Journalism & Broadcasting or a related field.


Two years' experience as news producer, journalist, and/or announcer. Successful experience using broadcast, production and field recording equipment; Successful experience using contemporary audio editing software; Successful experience with diverse populations ;Successful experience reporting in the field; Experience using social media and digital tools to as journalism tools; Experience doing FOIAs and building journalism sources; Experience in managing complex projects with the ability to meet a deadline.


Excellent spoken and written English skills; Excellent news copywriting skills appropriate for public radio; Must be able to meet deadlines, be organized and detail-oriented; Ability to use audio production equipment in the field and the studio; Commitment to ethical journalism standards; Experience writing in-depth enterprise journalism stories; Ability to recognize patterns in data; Ability to build a source pool from diverse communities; Ability to work collaboratively and independently; Independence, initiative and good judgment.



Preferred Qualifications:


Five years reporting experience, preferably in a public radio or audio storytelling environment: Reporting experience in marginalized communities or news deserts: Experience developing original journalism stories from talking to sources and using data: Experience doing long-form special project reporting: Experience pitching experimental projects and following through to completion.
