Senior SGT Systems Technician

Irvine, CA (Onsite)

Position Summary

Thales is looking for a Senior SGT Systems Technician to provide technical test support and investigation to the component level of all IFE equipment for Product Engineering and RMA.  The Sr. SGT Systems Technician (or Sr. Investigation Technician IV) is a "hands-on" RMA team position that focuses on optimization of test method using the Thales designed mini-rack system (or similar testing) to deep dive into failure modes of IFE LRUs.  Typically, will work at the system level in order to find root cause of failures experienced by customers, but is capable of supporting other senior level RMA tasks as directed by management.

In this position, you will also monitor the effectiveness of portions of the RMA processes, and where applicable, quantify, document and present findings to management.  Integrity of work ethic is of the highest importance in every aspect of tasks.   This position may also mentor and provide training to others when requested.

Key Areas of Responsibility


  • Using technical expertise and a degree of autonomy determine root cause of tested issues to component level when required and report results in written or oral explanation in detail in several formats. Provide regular review of analysis to leadership and suggestions for product improvements if appropriate.

  • Works to develop new ways of using the Thales’ Mini Rack to functionally test products.  Also will use the mini-rack to test product with a goal of clarifying paths to constant improvement in performance and reliability.

  • Capable with direction of performing technical validations and independently follow through process to completion using other RMA processes with a variety of diagnostic equipment. Be a flexible self-starter, who can both give and accept direction appropriately.

  • This position will require independent accurate long-term record keeping of investigation details and the results of investigations for later reference by others.  The ability to independently maintain detailed record keeping, and will be key to success in this position. This position will also support the improvement of overall RMA data recordkeeping, recording and integrity as requested by leadership.

  • Work collaboratively with different teams to resolve issues across several disciplines, and follow established processes and develops new written processes where requested according to current Thales QA requirements.

  • Capable of prioritizing and balancing multiple complex tasks at once with ease.

Minimum Qualifications


  • HS Diploma or GED and one-year certificate from a technical school in Electronic Technology or related field. Required to be skilled at soldering on multilevel PC boards to attach and remove components without harming board in any way.

  • 4 - 6 years of related experience as an Electronic Test Technician in Manufacturing/Production and skilled in electronic engineering (engineering, service) with hands on experience of board level analysis to the component level.

  • Read and interpret documents such as schematic, technical drawings, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals, ability to use all varieties of precision measuring instruments, apply technical understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form, define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions, and solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

  • Must have demonstrated highly detailed inspection skills and personal drive to improve product.

  • Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, required.  Project, PowerPoint, would be helpful.

  • Maintain work areas, records and equipment in a clean, organized and functional condition implementing 6S standards wherever possible.

Special Position Requirements



  • Schedule: Core business hours Monday through Friday.


  • Physical Environment: Production line and warehouse areas.



  • Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel.  The employee frequently is required to stand, sit, and reach with hands and arms.  The employee is occasionally required to walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.

What We Offer

The anticipated TTC range for this role is $49,219.80 - $91,408.20 USD Annual. The Company reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s status protected by local, state, or federal law.
