The department of Surgery has an exciting opportunity for a Post Doctoral Associate position. The incumbent performs scientific research and studies under the supervision of managing staff. Moreover, the Post Doctoral Associate promotes institutional recognition through literal contributions to the scientific community.

Department Specific Functions



A postdoctoral position in the Department of Surgery at the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine, is currently available. The laboratory is focused on biological discoveries that have the potential to lead to novel therapeutic strategies for pancreatic cancer. The successful candidate will be an active participant in a vibrant, collaborative atmosphere. Duties include but are not limited to conceiving and execution of experiments, data generation, and analysis, assembly, and presentation of figures, maintaining current knowledge of the literature, writing of manuscripts and grant applications, participation in laboratory meetings, partial supervision of research assistants, and/or students, lab organization, maintenance of laboratory supplies, presenting seminars and other forms of research communication in various national and international meetings.


This individual will take a multidisciplinary approach to design and implementing experiments to understand the basic mechanisms of tumorigenesis, which will include the use of biochemistry, cell biology, immunology, molecular biology, proteomics, genomics, animal modeling and mouse genetics, and/or the use of human tumor xenograft models. A prior experience with mouse models, immunology, cancer biology, basic programming skills - preferably in R and analysis of single-cell RNA-sequencing data is preferable. Experimental bench science is an essential requirement and the ability to present and discuss data. It is expected that the post-doctoral associate will also apply for extramural funding.



Minimum Qualifications



Applicant must be independent, self-motivated, goal-oriented, and have a Ph.D. in the life sciences (Biochemistry/Biotechnology/Chemistry/Cancer Biology/Immunology/Cell Biology). Preferred candidates will have a strong track record of publications, are highly organized, possess strong written and oral skills, and be able to work independently as well as collaboratively. This position also requires 0-2 yrs - basic laboratory or postdoctoral research experience.
