The Gordon Center has an exciting opportunity for a Part-time Nurse Educator(N);Level 2 to work in Miami, FL. The Simulation Nurse Instructor provides training and facilitates evidenced-based practices for first responders, medical and nursing students, residents, and practicing healthcare professionals, including nurses and allied health care professionals. The Simulation Nurse Instructor also serves as a nurse planner and collaborates with the team to assist in developing, implementing, teaching, and evaluating Gordon Center curricula. Moreover, this employee provides, develops, and implements curricula while ensuring adherence to all related health system or agency-specific policies, procedures, and guidelines.


The Simulation Nurse Instructor will incorporate educational technologies, including simulation (task-training and patient simulation scenarios), virtual/augmented/mixed reality and computer-based learning systems in educational programs focused on competency development of current and future healthcare professionals. Additionally, the Simulation Nurse Instructor will work collaboratively with the administration, faculty, and staff, of University of Miami Gordon Center, as well as our community clinical partners, to ensure high quality clinical outcomes.


The mission of the Gordon Center (GC) is to develop and disseminate leading edge educational programs utilizing advanced technology and simulation systems. The per diem Simulation Nurse Instructor is part of the cadre of instructors that teach in the Gordon Center's Prehospital and Emergency Training Division (PETD) training programs to an audience of over 15,000 learners per year. Courses include BLS, ACLS, PALS, Advanced Stroke Life Support (ASLS), Airway Management Principles and Practice (ACS), Acute Coronary Syndromes (ACS), Bedside Ultrasound, First Five Minutes, and Rapid Response Team Training.


  • Provides didactic instruction and psychomotor skills training in GC courses to a diverse population of learners at the provider and instructor level.


  • Teaches a minimum of 13 courses per term


  • Administers cognitive assessments and skills performance evaluations to course learners.


  • Provides remedial tutoring of learners with identified deficiencies in performance of course requirements.


  • Contributes to the development of objective criteria for skills performance evaluation.


  • Participates in the testing and analysis of educational tools utilized in GC courses.


  • Maintains current knowledge of the latest evidence for the subject matters being taught.


  • Participates in annual instructor update and instructor development programs.


  • Becomes well-versed in and implements the latest best practices in simulation education, including maintaining a psychologically safe environment and an effective feedback and debriefing.


  • Assists with the compilation of educational research data.


  • Serves as course coordinator and nurse planner for on-site courses- managing time, overseeing instructors, and ensuring course goals and objectives are met.


  • Manages off-site courses in Florida, the US, and possibly, internationally.


  • Sets up and breaks down, puts away equipment, furniture, etc., as required by course.


  • Assists in equipment and supply inventory maintenance.


  • Guides the educational process - independent of but accountable to the Accredited Provider Program Director.


  • Participates in and ensures that the ANCC Accreditation Program criteria are met in regard to the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of all nursing continuing professional development activities.


  • Facilitates planning committees.


  • Critically analyzes gaps and educational needs.


  • Develops a measurable outcome.


  • Designs education to help learners achieve the learning outcomes.


  • Provides the activity in accordance with ANCC Accreditation Program criteria.


  • Measures success of activities.


  • Serves as resource and/or content expert when applicable.


  • Discusses concerns/issues regarding Provider Unit processes and activities with the Accredited Provider Program Director


  • Participates in GC presentations to a variety of audiences, including community, government, and healthcare visitors.


  • Promotes positive communications about the Center and its programs within the allied health care community and contributes to the Center's responsiveness to constituent agency educational needs




MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS


  • Minimum: Bachelor's degree in Nursing


  • Minimum: 3 years of clinical experience


  • Minimum: 3 years of formal instructional experience


  • Preferred: 5 years of formal instructional experience


  • Preferred: Master's in Healthcare or Education-related fied




  • Holds a current, valid license as a registered nurse


  • Current AHA Provider/Instructor certification in BLS, ACLS; additional current certification in PALS preferred


  • Required: Has experience with the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing continuing professional development activities. Has knowledge of and experience with adult learning principles.


  • Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships.


  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.


  • Ability to lead, motivate, develop and train others.


  • Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment.


  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions.


  • Competent level of knowledge of course content for all disciplines to be taught, including curricula developed at the Gordon Center.
