Sustainability and ESG Reporting Specialist

We are looking for a self-motivated individual who brings a combination of technical expertise and consulting acumen to join our growing environmental, social, and governance (ESG) team! We are currently seeking a Sustainability and ESG Reporting Specialist with exceptional technical and writing skills to develop ESG reporting strategy and disclosures for clients across sectors, including energy, industrial and manufacturing, aerospace and defense, real estate and construction, mining, and government. Project work will span materiality assessments, greenhouse gas (GHG) emission inventories, science-based target setting, and reporting under accepted ESG frameworks. This is an excellent opportunity to join a dynamic team and help clients advance on their sustainability journey. This is a full-time position located in Raleigh, NC, Charlotte, NC, Greenville, SC, McLean, VA or Midlothian, VA offices. Other Haley & Aldrich locations may be considered for the ideal candidate.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
The successful candidate will:

  • Work under thesupervision of senior staff to efficiently execute on client deliverablesincluding ESG materiality assessments, GHG inventories and decarbonizationstrategies, sustainability questionnaires and reports, ESG gap analyses andgreenwashing audits, and performance improvement roadmaps.
  • Build robust ESGstrategies for clients, working collaboratively with a cross-functional team ofsustainability experts, environmental engineers, data scientists, andgeologists.
  • Effectivelycommunicate complex environmental and social issues to a wide range ofstakeholders, through analysis, ESG reports, and presentations.
  • Support businessdevelopment efforts by developing proposals and preparing external presentationsunder the guidance of senior staff.
  • Mentor and guidejunior consultants in the efficient production of client deliverables to meetbudget and schedule expectations.
  • Understand regulatoryand policy drivers for ESG, including U.S. Securities and Exchange Commissionand European Union regulations, applying this knowledge to solve clientchallenges and sharing this knowledge through presentations and regulatorytracking.

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degreein environmental science, environmental engineering, civil engineering,geology, or related technical field; graduate degree a plus.
  • Minimum 6-10years of consulting experience, with at least 5 years working on ESG-relatedissues and reporting.
  • Working knowledgeof ESG policies including financial and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience with internationalESG reporting frameworks and standards including GRI, SASB, TCFD, CSRD, EFRAG, andCBAM.
  • Familiarity withESG ratings and rankers including DJSI, CDP, Sustainalytics, S&P Global, Moody’s,MSCI, ISS, GRESB, and EcoVadis.
  • Technical competency with environmental sustainabilitymetrics including Scope 1, 2, and 3 GHG emissions, water use, and wastediversion, target setting (including the Science Based Targets Initiative,SBTi), and tracking.
  • Knowledge ofGHG accounting standards and protocols (including the GHG Protocol and ISO14064) with experience in boundary setting, data collection and quality, andallocation. Specific experience in Scope 3 assessment a strong plus.
  • Excellent writtenand verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complexenvironmental issues and demonstrated experience writing ESG disclosures.
  • Strongorganization skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to workin a collaborative team environment and be highly responsive to client requestsand deadlines.
  • Experience withproduct life-cycle boundaries and stages and life-cycle analysis (LCA) is aplus.
  • Computer literacy,including proficiency with Microsoft Office suite of applications and experiencewith Microsoft Teams.
  • Technology savvy with experience in various GHG andsustainability data analytic tools, data management systems and the ability tolearn and adapt quickly. Specific experience with sustainability softwareplatforms and data science and/or data visualization skills highly desired.
  • Limited travel asrequired to support project activities.
