Automation Design Engineer

We are seeking a creative and experienced Design Engineer to join our growing team! The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and developing new products and solutions, as well as improving existing ones. The ideal candidate should have a strong background in mechanical or electrical engineering, experience in 3D modeling and CAD software (solid works), and work collaboratively with multi-functional teams to bring ideas to life.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Design and develop new products, components, and custom Automation systems that meet customer needs and specifications.
  • Pre-sale concept design of automated systems
  • Collaborate with multi-functional teams, including product managers, application engineers, and quality control personnel, to build and improve designs.
  • Use 3D modeling software and CAD tools to create and refine designs and create technical drawings and documentation.
  • Create manufacturing drawings and add dimensions to prints as needed.
  • Perform calculations, simulations, and testing to evaluate and optimize design performance, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Identify and solve design issues while recommending viable solutions.
  • Stay up to date with the latest technologies and trends.
  • Work with suppliers and vendors to source materials, components, and equipment needed for production while growing and maintaining positive relationships.
  • Ensure that all designs meet regulatory and safety standards.
  • Use design software to craft automation systems components and guarding for automated machine tools.
  • Provide timeline estimates and project updates on a regular basis to satisfy customer requests.
  • Build work instructions and installation instructions of the items designed and manufactured.

Qualifications:


  • Four-year Engineering Degree
  • Automation experience is preferred, but not required.
  • Possess strong engineering skills and track records of project success.
  • Knowledge of CNC machine technology and applications with previous experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Solid understanding of CAD software (SolidWorks).
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with individuals and groups, both professional and non-professional, co-workers, management personnel, the public, and others.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple priorities.
  • Proven written and verbal communication, listening, organization and priority setting skills required.
  • Ability to travel to multiple Morris Group facilities and customer locations.
