Nursing Director Ellison 19 Thoracic and Vascular Surgery



This role is an essential leadership position within the hospital organization and encompasses oversight and management for safe, high quality patient focused care; personnel management and development; clinical operations; and the development of highly effective partnerships throughout the Department of Nursing and across all disciplines and organizational departments.



Ellison 19 is a 19-bed
Thoracic and Vascular Surgery unit.

  • Ellison 19 is a 30 bed Thoracic, Vascular and Laryngeal Surgery unit, primarily taking patients after PACU recovery.

  • Surgeries include complex thoracic, esophageal, pulmonary, laryngeal, tracheal resections and reconstruction and diverse vascular surgeries including amputations, aortic grafting, and interventional procedures.

  • These patients require postoperative management which may include chest tubes, tracheal tubes which require airway management, pain management via Epidural or IV catheters, and telemetry monitoring.

Reporting to an Associate Chief Nurse, the Nursing Director provides leadership in an environment that celebrates and empowers nurses. In collaboration with a Clinical Nurse/Nurse Practice Specialist, the leadership dyad hires, develops and provides direction to patient care providers and unlicensed clinical support staff. The Nursing Director partners with nurses, physicians, administrative colleagues, and other disciplines to guide and direct clinical practice, systems improvement, network development, and operations. The Nursing Director partners with other department managers to negotiate and plan for interdepartmental resources and ensure the best level of services to direct care providers, and ultimately patients. The Nursing Director promotes professionalism and autonomy by engaging staff in planning, decision-making and the encouraging utilization of the many educational resources available to them for further development.

Qualifications

Qualifications



  • Demonstrated experience in a leadership role is preferred. Surgical RN experience preferred.

  • Demonstrates leadership/managerial skill, which includes interpersonal competence, organizational skills, financial management, personnel management, hardiness, and adaptability.

  • Current licensure as a registered nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

  • Master's degree required; either bachelor's or master's degree must be in nursing.
