Job Title: Clinical Research Coordinator



Opportunity Description: The Metabolism Unit (MetU), a clinical research unit in the Endocrine Division at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) in affiliation with the Nutrition Obesity Research Center at Harvard, is seeking highly motivated college graduates to apply for a two-year position as a Clinical Research Coordinator (CRC). Our Unit works on clinical research studies investigating obesity, metabolism, and cardiovascular disease, with topics ranging from appetite regulation, metabolic implications of sex and gender, cardiovascular complications of HIV-infection, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, and the health consequences of inflammation and obesity. CRCs at the MetU can work as part of a team of physicians, research nurse practitioners, and other CRCs on clinical-translational research.
The position is great preparation for subsequent training in health professions, including seeking an MD, PhD, or other allied health degree.
CRCs facilitate a research study's long-term success in several ways. These include:



  • Talking with potential study participants to facilitate recruitment and screening

  • Working with study participants throughout the study to ensure a good research experience

  • Assisting with the conduct of participant study visits at the MGH Clinical Research Center and other hospital sites

  • Collecting and managing data

  • Ensuring compliance with the rules of regulatory bodies such as the Mass General Brigham Institutional Review Board

  • Analyzing data and preparing scientific manuscripts for submission/publication

This position is ideal for a college graduates looking to gain significant research experience in a clinical setting before enrolling in medical school. Our Unit has a long history of mentoring research coordinators and including them in scientific publications and other scientific experiences.



Qualifications

Bachelor's degree required.



Desired qualifications include:



  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact professionally with study participants and other members of the research team

  • Meticulous attention to detail

  • Excellent organization and communication skills

  • Initiative and motivation to work hard

  • Ability to prioritize competing demands



A background in statistics/research is desirable but not required.


CRCs will work 40 hours per week.


CRCs will likely be expected to start by late May or early June 2024.
