Job Description

We are looking for a Grossing Technician (24 hours per week) in our Elmwood Park, NJ location.

Schedule: Tuesday to Friday 5pm to 9pm, Saturday 8pm to 4:30pm

Position Summary: Perform duties that relate to the histological grossing of surgically removed patient tissue.

Position Responsibilities:

Duties may include but are not necessarily limited to the following:

Review specimen to ensure integrity upon arrival and during the whole process. Provide a gross description for each biopsy specimen, dissect and prepare tissue for processing.
Under the supervision of a pathologist assistant, pathologist or supervisor, gross core needle biopsy and all pathology specimens.
Prepare dissected tissue specimens and place into cassettes.
Load cassettes into the tissue processor and run the equipment.
Determine proper processing schedule.
Perform quality control and quality assurance measures.
Evaluation of new laboratory equipment and procedures.
Articulate specimen specifics into a dictation machine
Maintain compliance with all safety procedures, standard operating procedures and State and Federal regulations pertaining to Grossing.

Minimum Qualifications (required vs. preferred):

Required:

Associate's degree in a Life Science or Molecular Technology
Familiarity with computers
Must be willing and able to handle products of conception (POCs)
Clear verbal articulation is a must

Preferred:

1 plus years of grossing experience
Knowledgeable in the handling of specimens from accessioning to final specimen storage
Working knowledge of clinical laboratories, operational procedures and lab safety.
