We are seeking a full-time Senior Aviation Systems Radar Engineer in our Olathe, KS location. In this role, you will be responsible for leading successful conception, development, and/or application of sophisticated avionics systems by creating, identifying, documenting, and coordinating customer and regulatory system requirements and scalable system design for integrated flight deck programs and/or retrofit product lines.
Garmin's Aviation Systems Engineers are responsible for the following:
Developing new signal processing algorithms to provide a competitive advantage for weather radar applications
Researching novel techniques to improve weather radar performance
Simulating/modeling radar signals and systems, including signal-environment interaction
Processing and analyze data collected using weather radar
Improving weather radar data quality
Essential Functions
Serves in leadership capacity to identify, document, and coordinate technical aspects of new interfaces / functionality in order to support specific customer requirements for implementations that can be scalable across multiple integrated flight deck programs or retrofit product lines
Creates system requirements, supporting rationale, technical description documentation, and performs complete trade-off analysis for new products and functions, following requirements standards and best-practices
Contributes to the creation or modification of system-level processes and best practices for systems engineering and/or program execution
Leads coordination efforts for collaborative requirement allocation and verification planning activities
May define and/or develop tools that span multiple organizations, projects, or programs
May review bench test plans/procedures and recommend changes or improvements based on prior experience
Independently performs technical market research and analysis in support of product definition and/or business development initiatives
Supports establishing program/project-specific execution plans for system-level aspects compatible with Garmin processes, including initial discussions with the customer
Mentors and provides guidance to less experienced Aviation Systems Engineers (1 & 2)
Provides reliable solutions to a wide range of difficult problems using sound problem solving techniques and provides technical input to product development plans and concept documents
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Math or Physics AND a minimum of 5 years relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
Demonstrates expert knowledge and troubleshooting skills in one or more of the following technical areas: Systems Integration, System Safety, System Requirements
Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Must be team-oriented, possess a positive attitude, work well with others, and is a driven problem solver with proven success in solving difficult problems
Broad technical knowledge and skills in one or more areas of avionics systems and product development
Desired Qualifications
Signal processing experience using complex data
Experience with 1-D, 2-D filters designs, windowing techniques, decimation and interpolation methods and applications
Strong background in statistics, including signal estimation and probability theory
Understanding of radar theory, Doppler/non-Doppler radar signals, radar waveforms
Experience in radar signal processing
Experience with adaptive signal processing methods
Preferred skills:
C/C++, low level programming
Mastery of MATLAB or Python programming language, including experience in common signal processing toolkits and libraries
Experience working with consumer or aviation products
