Purpose and Scope
Reporting to the Quality Manager, the Quality Professional II is instrumental in assuring that the product conforms to internal and external requirements and drives and supports the quality systems in a cost-effective, value-added manner consistent with our customer and shareholder needs for the St. Clair Plant. The Quality Professional II performs non-conforming product investigation and disposition, problem-solving, internal audits, statistical analysis, document control, APQP, training, reporting, and trend analysis that drive high-impact improvement efforts.

Responsibilities
With a hands-on approach, the Quality Professional II plays a significant role in developing, communicating, training, implementing, and improving the quality management system, which is currently certified to ISO-9001 and IATF-16949. The Quality Professional II is a well-rounded individual who understands the quality principles/practices and possesses excellent communication skills.

  • Assist and participate in maintaining and improving the current quality management system and its certification (IATF16949) through internal audits, continuous improvement activities and projects, reduction of production defects and scrap, resolution of customer complaints and claims, and implementation of Customer-Specific Requirements.
  • Assist the Quality Manager in preparing regular and ad-hoc reports, studies, statistical analysis, capability studies, and trend analysis, as needed.
  • Work closely with the Quality Lab Technicians to ensure timely and quality performance of tests and reports, as well as implementation of proper procedures and work instructions.
  • Write and review procedures and work instructions as necessary to comply with the applicable ISO 9001 and IATF 16949 requirements and internal TimkenSteel requirements.
  • Participate in the containment, investigation, root-cause analysis, disposition, and audit of the handling and control of non-conforming material.
  • Conduct and lead internal audits, layered process audits, and corrective actions.
  • Review and assure all customer quality complaints are addressed in a timely manner and with root-cause and corrective action to prevent recurrence.
  • Work with engineering and other departments to incorporate and ensure all process changes are captured in standards and work instructions.
  • Train and update shop floor associates on new or revised work instructions, as needed, to reduce process variation.
  • Demonstrate a true 'shop floor presence' by working closely with production supervisors, line operators, and engineering to understand and improve the operations.
  • Mentor and coach associates to drive root-cause analysis and problem-solving.
  • Suggest, support, and lead continuous improvement activities and work to improve the quality, efficiency, and effectiveness of all processes.
  • Monitor supplier performance and issue corrective action requests as needed.
  • Participate and assist in providing internal and external customer support, handling on-site customer visits and audits, providing customer technical support, customer regulatory support, new customer process approvals, and defect evaluation.

Technical/Functional Skills
  • Knowledge and experience working with quality management systems requirements (prefer ISO-9001 and IATF-16949)
  • Ability to read mechanical drawings with technical specifications required.
  • Training experience desired
  • Understanding of Lean Manufacturing tools desired
  • SAP experience desired
  • Strong technical experience in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience with methodology to process and solve corrective actions required.
  • Experience with statistical analysis applications/software and tools.

Minimum Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent with 7 years of experience in a quality-related role responsible for supporting the quality management system in a manufacturing environment.
  • Associate's degree in business or related technical field with 4 years of experience in a quality-related role responsible for supporting the quality management system in a manufacturing environment.
  • Bachelor's degree in business or related technical field with 2 years of experience in a quality-related role responsible for supporting the quality management system in a manufacturing environment.

Preferred Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent with 10 years of experience in a quality-related role responsible for supporting the quality management system in a manufacturing environment.
  • Associate's degree in business or related technical field with 7 years of experience in a quality-related role responsible for supporting the quality management system in a manufacturing environment.
  • Bachelor's degree in business or related technical field with 5 years of experience in a quality-related role responsible for supporting the quality management system in a manufacturing environment.
  • ISO 9001 or IATF 16949 certified lead auditor.
  • Lean Six Sigma certification.
