Position Summary:
This is a temporary position to assist with a special project slotted to last from 6-7 months. This position may be converted into a regular permanent position depending on sustained lab needs in the coming months. This opportunity is perfect for candidates with 1-2 years of science/lab experience (working with RT-PCR is a plus), or new graduates, who are fast learners and are excited to launch their science careers in a growing industry. Compensation will be dependent on experience.

Ideally, the selected candidate would begin employment June 1.

Under the supervision of the Science Director and in collaboration with lab staff, this position is responsible for performing a variety of lab-related duties including but not limited to:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Support development, execution and validation of RT-PCR based diagnostic assay and prepare for client testing. Maintains workflow with respect to sample processing, testing activities, cleanup and proper disposal of waste. Ensure residual solvent and terpene chromatographic data (GC-FID) is being reviewed and interpreted correctly and reported accurately for all client samples. Manages CRMs and chemical standards, inventory, storage, record keeping and documentation in LIMs software according to lab guidelines and document requirements. Monitors laboratory inventory of supplies and consumables, prepares orders for approval. Assist in preparing for lab audits and reviews to ensure compliance with changing regulations. Participate in twice-yearly Proficiency Testing programs as required for accreditation, including any corrective action follow-up for failed analytes. Performs experiments and/or research activities as directed. Adheres to the established security procedures of the laboratory. Ensures work is maintained within state regulations and guidelines as well as conforming to up to date lab guidelines and documentation. Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements
Bachelor of Science in chemistry, biochemistry, microbiology or related field. Experience with sterile sample preparation. Familiarity with PCR assays and data interpretation. Ability to interpret data, perform analytical calculations and understand nuances of spectra analysis and interpretation. Strong organizational and problem-solving skills. Willing to train and take on various other lab duties as needed for business growth and development.

Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret technical documents such as SOPs, quality manual, employee handbook, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in English in- person or via written correspondence regarding; results or summaries on experimental design, reports, data analysis or interpretation.

Mathematical Skills
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as unit analysis, algebraic equations, probability and statistics. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to laboratory results.

Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve analytical problems and deal with variables related to lab testing. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in oral, written or schedule form.

The noise level is low-moderate. The physical exertion is moderate. Work is performed in a laboratory environment and may require use of personal protection equipment to limit exposure to chemicals or other hazards found within a laboratory environment such as gloves, lab coat, safety glasses. There are frequent contacts and interruptions during the day.
