Assistant Professor of School Psychology

The Psychology Department, housed within the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences at the University of Houston-Victoria, invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in School Psychology. This position will start in Fall 2024.    

 

A doctoral degree in School Psychology is required. School-based experience as a school psychologist and prior supervision of practicum or internship students is strongly preferred. Candidate must possess or be qualified to obtain Texas licensure as a Licensed Specialist in School Psychology.  

 

The successful applicant will teach graduate courses in the School Psychology program that include intellectual and academic achievement, school-based consultation, and psychological theories applied to schools. Applicants should also have interest in supervising students on practicum as a university-based supervisor. In addition to graduate teaching responsibilities, the applicant should also have the ability to teach a variety of undergraduate psychology courses as needed to support the department. Experience teaching in a variety of modalities (face to face courses, online, and hybrid courses) is strongly preferred. Summer teaching is normally available at attractive rates.

 

Successful applicants will have a strong desire to work in a dynamic, successful, and growing NASP accredited program. The School Psychology program has been NASP accredited since 2021 and is up for reaccreditation in 2028. The applicant will be an integral member of the psychology department, including participation in the School Psychology and undergraduate Psychology programs. Applicants will also be expected to engage in regular professional development opportunities and extracurricular activities for students. Successful applicants will have evidence of scholarly activity and the potential to establish a sustainable research agenda appropriate for a teaching institution. 

 

The School Psychology program currently teaches courses at both the Victoria and Katy campuses. The program is designed for working professionals and uses a hybrid teaching model. The program attracts many non-traditional students but is flexible to meet the needs of all students. Approximately 60% of the program is online. Classes that require face-to-face components typically meet in the evenings. The program and the university are highly committed to recruiting and retaining students of historically racially and ethnically minoritized backgrounds. Over half of School Psychology students identify as racially, ethnically, or linguistically diverse. The program prides itself on being a close and supportive community. If desired, the successful candidate can be based in the greater Houston area with occasional travel to Victoria as needed.
