Job Description:

Nemours is seeking an Advanced Clinical Pathways Development Specialist to join our Nemours Children's Health team in Wilmington, Delaware.

In alignment with our Strategic Plan, Nemours is shifting our clinical focus toward a care model that emphasizes clinical pathways (formerly known as "Clinical Standard Work"). The Advanced Clinical Pathways Development Specialist is responsible for clinical pathway development from inception to implementation. Working with clinical pathway educators, implementation specialist and data analysts the advanced pathway development specialist with ensure pathway success using PDSA cycles.

The primary function of this role is to assist with establishing current state, facilitating evidence review, drafting of pathway algorithms, workgroup facilitation to establish clinician consensus, elicit stakeholder feedback, facilitate area leader approval, and ensure proper Epic integration of the clinical pathway.

In this role, they will ensure the enculturation of an enterprise-wide strategy, to socialize existing and promote new clinical pathways to inter-professional teams. In addition to development, the incumbent will adjust their approach based on adherence rates to pathways. This person serves as a role model facilitator, change agent, consultant, and leader to promote the Clinical Pathways Program.


  • Develops relationships, collaborates, and interacts with local clinicians to support, implement, adjust and sustain clinical pathways.
  • Identifies needs, escalates issues, and engages with enterprise partners to advance the work of the Clinical Pathway Department.
  • The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, committed to success and take ownership of the success of the Clinical Pathways Department.
  • Excellent interpersonal, collaborative and communications skills are required to ensure consensus building and educating on pathways
  • Role models Nemours Standards of Behavior and actively supports Nemours vision and strategic plan.
  • Maintains professional practice knowledge base, including departmental and organizational policies, standards of care, and procedures.
  • Partners directly with the Clinical Pathway Department leadership team to ensure consistency and delivery on joint vision.
  • Provides consultation and resources to clinical teams and collaborates to identify needs.
  • Utilizes skilled oral, written, and electronic communication to communicate effectively and to foster collegial relationships both intra- and interdepartmentally.
  • Models professional behaviors including involvement in professional organizations, engagement in lifelong learning activities, dissemination of information through publications and presentations, and involvement in quality improvement and research activities.
  • Performs on-site observations and interviews with frontline staff.
  • Facilitate evidence review through literature request and/or review.
  • Drafting of algorithms using Visio or similar software.
  • Facilitation of workgroup meetings with interdisciplinary teams to establish medical consensus around evidenced-based care, collaborating closely with Clinical Pathway Medical Directors.
  • Elicit stakeholder feedback throughout all phases of pathway development and launch.
  • Facilitate pathway approval from area leaders for MEC submission.
  • Ensure proper Epic integration of the clinical pathway.
  • Assist with pathway education and implementation as needed.


Job Requirements

  • Master's of Science in Nursing (MSN) or Master's of Science in Physician Assistant required.
  • Current State of Delaware APRN license or State of Delaware Physician Assistant license in good standing required.
  • For APRN, Pediatric Nurse Practitioner preferred (PNP-PC or PNP-AC).
  • Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years experience required.
  • Current American Heart Association BLS Certification required upon hire.
  • Experience in the use of and development of clinical pathways, experience in quality improvement methodology preferred.
  • Pediatric clinical experience preferred.
