GENERAL MAINTENANCE WORKER

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The General Maintenance Worker performs general maintenance and repair of equipment and buildings requiring practical skill and knowledge (but not proficiency) in such trades as painting, carpentry, plumbing, masonry, and electrical work. Work involves a variety of the following duties: replacing electrical receptacles, wires, switches, fixtures, and motors, using plaster or compound to patch minor holes and cracks in walls and ceilings, repairing or replacing sinks, water coolers, and toilets painting structures and equipment; repairing or replacing concrete floors, steps, and sidewalks, replacing damaged paneling and floor tiles, hanging doors and installing door locks, replacing broken window panes, and performing general maintenance on equipment and machinery. Essential job functions may also include controlling range test areas and/or repairs to towers, involving replacement of cross-members, bolts, and other tower hardware. The position may require the ability to climb towers up to 300 feet in height. Tower climbing experience may be required and if so, incumbents will be required to attend climbing school for certification and attend periodic training courses to remain certified. General Maintenance Workers may be required to be familiar with the use and maintenance of personal safety climbing accessories. Structures may not be equipped with climbing cages, but all will be equipped with safety devices for ascending and descending towers.

GENERAL DUTIES: Work is performed under minimal supervision and varies in the combination of trade practices that are performed in different work situations throughout the E-OMS contract. Despite the variety of combinations, two main elements of the job are constant. The work requires the application of skilled trade practices. The General Maintenance Worker performs a variety of tasks involved in the construction and upkeep of buildings, grounds, and related structures, fixtures, and utilities. Typical work assignments include the performance of visual examinations and operational tests to determine the need for, and the performance of, repair work.

Work involves a variety of the following duties: ascending and descending towers, inspecting, and maintaining towers to include lights, guy wires, and spot corrosion control, installation of antenna mounts on towers, replacing electrical receptacles, wires, switches, fixtures, and motors. Performing general maintenance on equipment and machinery, may be required to operate equipment such as forklifts, and other small equipment.

OTHER DUTIES: Job functions may also include cross utilization on task as Direct Mission support, controlling range test areas, working with other crews within Range Services, such as Electricians, Welders, Heavy Equipment Operators, and Tower climbers. Job functions will require working in extreme weather condition for extended periods of time, operate industrial support equipment, handle hazardous material, and housekeeping duties in work areas. Other duties may be assigned such as vehicle maintenance, environmental, safety, and security. Required to use and wear appropriate safety equipment. Overtime and weekend support may be required.



Job Requirements:

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Incumbents must have either: Formal training, acquired through vocational certification or military service school training or a certified apprenticeship program, in at least one of the following disciplines: carpentry, masonry, plumbing, electrical, air conditioning, cement work, concrete strength testing, range controlling, surveying, hydraulics, tower maintenance, small engine repair or painting, and 3 years of combined experience in at least two of the trades mentioned above., or 5 years verifiable experience in at least two of the following disciplines: carpentry, masonry, plumbing, electrical, air conditioning, cement work, range controlling, surveying, hydraulics, tower maintenance, or painting.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: May be required obtain and maintain a class "A" or "B" CDL driver’s license. This position requires a Secret security clearance. Candidates must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance. All selected candidates must undergo and successfully pass a background investigation and drug test as a condition of placement into this position. Observes training courses to remain certified. Supports E-OMS operational objectives. Observes company Quality, Safety, Environmental, Security and Administrative policies; supports Process Improvement.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Will be required to work outside in hot and cold weather.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires good physical conditioning; ability to regularly lift up to 50 pounds, stand, bend, crawl, and work in awkward positions. The ability to work at heights may be required. The position may provide an opportunity to climb towers up to 300 feet in height, to perform maintenance and repair on Towers located throughout Eglin AFB.
