WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHER

The Meramec and Big River Urban Waters Ambassador will create and implement plans and projects to reconnect people to the Meramec, Big, and Bourbeuse rivers and tributaries; revitalize communities impacted by environmental justice challenges; and restore the rivers, wooded riparian corridors, and surrounding lands. You will build networks and partnerships at a variety of levels including local, state, and federal government, non-governmental organizations, academia, and the private sector to engage in and influence floodplain planning, government cost-share opportunities, and implementation of several existing plans that exist for the Meramec, Big, and Bourbeuse river watersheds.

As the Meramec and Big River Urban Waters Ambassador you will integrate into the Urban Waters Federal Partnership network of federal agencies and Urban Waters Ambassadors across the country and build upon the work of past Meramec and Big River Urban Waters Ambassadors. You will be responsible for developing a multi-year workplan by collaborating with partner organizations in the watersheds to prioritize action items from number of existing plans and tools. You will also convene stakeholder groups and host field days and workshops for partner organizations, landowners, and municipalities in the watershed. The Meramec and Big River Urban Waters Ambassador will work directly with TNC Missouri's Director of Resilient Waters.

In this role, you will bolster TNC Missouri's conservation priorities and support TNC's 2030 Goals by driving strategies to implement natural climate solutions, improve river and floodplain connectivity, and improve equitable outcomes for Missouri communities. This position will work closely with key federal partners, including the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency and U.S. Department of Agriculture's Forest Service, who are directly supporting this work. The Meramec and Big River Urban Waters Ambassador will demonstrate progress by successfully creating and leading a shared conservation agenda for the Meramec, Big, and Bourbeuse watersheds that will include targeted cost-share and conservation easements on private land and floodplain prioritization and reconnection within communities along the rivers. This work will be highly coordinated among local partner organizations and multiple funding and land protection mechanisms from government agencies and private foundations.

This is a grant-funded position that is guaranteed for 14 months. Part of the Urban Waters Ambassador's goals will be to seek additional grant funding to maintain this position into the future.
