A Ph.D. in psychology is required. Candidates who are ABD will be considered and are strongly encouraged to apply. However, a Ph.D. is required by the end of the first year of the appointment (i.e., by May 31, 2025). The successful candidate will be expected to teach a variety of undergraduate face-to-face courses and to hold regular office hours at our Eagle Pass facilities. The professional specialization for this opening is limited to one or more of the following areas: clinical or counseling psychology, developmental psychology, health psychology, and experimental psychology.

Primary Responsibilities:

The Department of Natural & Behavioral Sciences at Rio Grande College of Sul Ross State University is seeking a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Psychology for the Fall of 2024.Sul Ross is in the process of constructing a brand-new campus in Eagle Pass, Texas. The campus master plan, as approved by the Texas State University System Board of Regents, calls for the development of a four-year university in Eagle Pass to serve up to 10,000 students by 2035.The successful candidate for the open position will demonstrate an enthusiasm to participate in the rapid expansion of an undergraduate psychology program, a love of undergraduate teaching, an interest in research and/or community service, and an appreciation for the rich cultural milieu of Southwest Texas.The candidate should have a strong background in at least one of the following areas: clinical or counseling psychology, developmental psychology, health psychology, or experimental psychology.The successful candidate must possess a Ph.D. in psychology. A terminal degree in related fields will not be sufficient for this position.This is a full-time, 9-month faculty appointment in Eagle Pass, TX. The standard teaching load will consist of 12 undergraduate credit hours per semester, although a course reduction may be possible for candidates who demonstrate a record of productive research or effective community service.The teaching load will initially consist solely of advanced undergraduate courses, but this is expected to expand to include lower-division undergraduate courses, as well as graduate courses, in the years ahead. Teaching modalities may include traditional face-to-face courses as well as online offerings such as virtual meeting courses and web courses.Other faculty responsibilities will include student advising and participation in departmental, college, and university service.

Opportunity: New Sul Ross State University Eagle Pass Campus

On September 29, 2022, the Regents of Texas State University System (TSUS) announced in Eagle Pass, Texas, that the Sul Ross State University (SRSU) Eagle Pass Campus will be transitioning to a comprehensive four-year university. The TSUS is in the planning stages of constructing a multi-million dollar building on a 100-acre campus in Eagle Pass, Texas, that will be the location of a stand-alone four-year University. The Master plan includes nineteen complexes, three residential living student dormitories that will accommodate one thousand students, a student union, an athletic center, a library, and several academic centers. The project's first phase is a $34 million multipurpose building with administrative offices, student activity offices, multi-media rooms, and classrooms. The new facility is scheduled to be completed by the fall of 2025. This new position will be an integral part of this phenomenal opportunity to expand existing programs and grow new ones for the new university.


Texas Law requires a 60 day waiting period before new state employees are eligible to enroll in health insurance.
