Position OverviewThe University of Kansas McNair Scholars Program is seeking two Temporary Writing Consultants. The successful candidates are individuals committed, in theory and practice, to the principles of equitable educational opportunities and who can fully incorporate this goal into the services provided for low-income, first-generation, and underrepresented minority college students. They will serve as writing consultants and will work with undergraduate students participating in a summer research internship by providing writing support to students. They will also assist students with the process of developing drafts, revising papers, creating presentations, and other duties assigned by the program director. The writing consultant reports to the Director of the McNair Scholars Program.
The McNair Scholars Program (a part of the Achievement & Assessment Institute's (AAI) Center for Educational Opportunity Programs) is located in Lawrence, Kansas. This is a temporary, part-time position from June 3-July 31, 2024.Job Description70% - Provide writing support to students; assisting them with the process of developing drafts, revising papers, & creating PowerPoint/Poster presentations.
15% - Maintain accurate participant records by completing Writing Consultation Logs for each participant and submitting them to the Program Director.
10% - Develop a thorough understanding of the program's overall goals and assist the students with tasks that will help prepare them for graduate study, including support with the GRE analytical writing component.
5% - Other duties assigned by program director, including encouraging and supporting McNair Scholar Program's mission of preparing underrepresented students for graduate study.Required Qualifications
