Job Description:




Budget Title: Senior Staff Assistant (SL-3)




Salary: $53,151 - $57,000




The Disabilities Services Specialist position within Services for Students with Disabilities is a full-time 12-month professional obligation. The position reports to the Director. Duties and responsibilities include:





  • Determine and authorize appropriate academic and programmatic accommodations for eligible students as applicable under ADA/ADAAA/504 laws on an individualized case-by-case basis.

  • Review, Interpret and evaluate disability documentation on students with a variety of disabilities including, but not limited to: Mental Health, Physical, Chronic Health, ADHD, and Traumatic Brain Injury.

  • Determine and coordinate appropriate individual accommodations as they pertain to study abroad, clinical, and experiential placements.

  • Consult with faculty on the implementation and appropriateness of academic accommodations, including but not limited to: audio recording, attendance and assignment flexibility

  • Serve as a resource for faculty, TAs and staff regarding questions related to individual accommodation needs of students as necessary.

  • Develop and conduct presentations including, but not limited to, University obligations under ADA; disability awareness; programmatic and electronic accessibility.

  • Participate and lead summer Orientation Sessions

  • Develop and provide in-service training and disability awareness programming when necessary for Faculty, Staff, Teaching Assistants, Tutors and the University community in identifying and responding to the needs of students.

  • Collaborate with the SSD Director and other SSD staff in developing programming surrounding best practices to facilitate student growth and equitable access on campus

  • Represent the SSD office and advocate for needs of students with disabilities committees and initiatives that occur on campus

  • Work in a fast-paced team-oriented and collaborative office






Requirements:




Visa sponsorship is not available for this position





  • Master's degree in the field of Psychology, Special Education, Vocational Rehabilitation, Social Work, Speech Pathology or related field from an accredited institution of higher education AND One years' experience working with adolescent to adult aged students with disabilities OR a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education AND five years of experience working with adolescent to adult aged individuals with disabilities

  • Professional experience developing and conducting trainings/workshops/presentations to students, faculty, and staff

  • Professional caliber written and interpersonal communication skills




Preferred:





  • Experience in disability services in a higher education setting

  • Familiarity and knowledge with ADA/504/ADAAA

  • Experience working with adolescents and young adults with mental health disorders (e.g., anxiety, depression)

  • Experience interpreting psycho-educational evaluations
