Job Description Summary
The Assistant Director will collaborate with the Clinical Research Program Lead to help oversee the day-to-day research operations of the Penn Frontotemporal Degeneration Center's (FTDC) federal, foundation, and philanthropic research portfolio, including the supervision of FTDC scientific research staff providing advice and guidance to FTDC directors and associated faculty researchers working within the Center, and managing all aspects of research personnel activity, including the development and use of training initiatives and standard operating procedures (SOP).

Job Description

The Assistant Director collaborates with the FTDC Co-Director(s) on strategy development and ensures that appropriate research strategies are aligned with institutional and project objectives. The Assistant Director will develop best practices, methods, techniques, and operational standards for research across the Penn FTD including ovesight of internal/external data sharing inititaves, data dictionary management, and maintenance of SOP protocols related to post-data/specimen acquisition materials.



The Assistant Director ensures streamlined and standardized processes, eliminates redundancies, and ensures sound financial stewardship of space, equipment and expenditures of federal, foundation, and philanthropic resources. The Assistant Director partners with the Neurology Business Office, the University's Office of Research Services, and other of finance and administration offices throughout the University as needed to manage federal, foundation, and philanthropic research budgets and ensure accurate allocation of personnel.



The Assistant Director develops and maintains collaborative partnerships and scientific initiatives with organizations and individuals both internal and external to the University, and acts as a liaison between and among key stakeholders (e.g., donors, academic partners, community members). The Assistant Director will support direct communication of FTDC and research priorities to these stakeholders to ensure execution of goals and milestones through regular meetings, status updates, and other written communications.



Where appropriate, the Assistant Director operationalizes and oversees the data collection, archival and reporting of data/specimen collection metrics. Assistant Director establishes data collection methodologies, data validation, and the implementation of reporting technologies and oversees preparation of annual progress reports s to ensure adherence to quality standards, operational best practices, and to identify potential risks.



The Assistant Director is responsible for participating in, the overall conceptualization, planning and execution of a coordinated program of scholarly and scientific research for the FTDC.



The Assistant Director supports educational activities associated with the FTDC including academic coordination of associated NIH T32 training grant activities and related coursework on topics relevant to FTDC.
* Participate in grant-writing and other internal and external fundraising initiatives for the Center;
* Additional activities to support the Center's research as appropriate.




Qualifications



  • Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Arts, and 5 to 7 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
