Job Description:
Arctos, LLC

OVERVIEW

Reach New Heights!

ARCTOS is a fast-growing, technology-oriented small business providing aerospace, defense, and digital solutions, with offices and work sites across the United States. We’re looking for team-oriented innovators eager to tackle interesting challenges, work on important problems, and receive great benefits and employee support.

REQUIREMENT

ARCTOS is currently seeking interns for the Air Force Research Laboratory's High Speed Systems Division (AFRL/RQH). The duration of these internships varies widely by position, from approximately 4 to 18 weeks. AFRL/RQH has operating locations at Wright-Patterson AFB (WPAFB), OH as well as a branch (AFRL/RQHX) at the Arnold Engineering Development Complex (AEDC), Arnold AFB, TN. Candidates will perform computational and/or experimental investigations of high speed vehicle technologies, working alongside AFRL personnel who will serve as their mentors and provide guidance in their research work. The specific details of each unique position will be provided by the AFRL sponsor. Work may be a combination of on-site and telework depending on the customers requirements. Interns will be responsible for documenting their work in a briefing and/or oral presentation to be delivered to the customer (AFRL/RQH) near the end of their internship period.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Perform computational and/or experimental investigations of high speed vehicle technologies, working alongside AFRL personnel who will serve as mentors.
  2. Be responsive to guidance provided by AFRL mentors and conform to regulations and guidelines for working in the customer's workspace.
  3. Document work in a final briefing and/or oral presentation to be delivered to AFRL/RQH at the end of the internship. Details will be specified by the sponsor.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

Candidates for these positions range from undergraduate to graduate college students in an engineering or relevant technical discipline. They will have completed engineering/technical coursework aligned with their expected duties, which will vary by position. Duties will entail performing analyses and/or experiments on technologies related to high speed aerospace systems. Experience with analysis and CFD tools is highly desirable, as is laboratory experience for those assigned to perform experimentation. The ability to work effectively in teams is important, as is the ability to work independently.

EDUCATIONAL, CLEARANCE AND CERTIFICATION

Candidates will have completed engineering/technical coursework that is commensurate with their expected duties. This coursework will be in an engineering or relevant technical discipline. Since the candidates will range from undergraduates to PhD candidates, the educational requirements will vary widely and are specific to each position.

PHYSICAL/WORKING ENVIRONMENT

  • Depending on the duties assigned, the work environment could either be an office space, laboratory, or a mix of office and laboratory. If laboratory work is required, all safety guidelines must be strictly followed. Telework may also be appropriate in some situations if permitted by the sponsor. Telework will be addressed on a case-by-case basis.

TRAVEL

  • Travel is not anticipated, but if performed will be under the guidelines of Federal Travel Regulations and/or Joint Travel Regulations.

ARCTOS and its subsidiaries are an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or veteran status.
