GHD's Business Group Leader - Water, you will work closely with the Mid-Con Operations Manager, General Manager, and Water Market Leader across multidisciplinary projects, bids, and proposals to develop and significantly grow GHD's presence and market share in the fields of municipal wastewater treatment, municipal water treatment, industrial wastewater treatment and industrial water treatment. The role will provide leadership in developing and delivering a range of projects and leading and mentoring a team of engineers and technical specialists.

We have an outstanding leadership opportunity for a Business Group Leader - Water to lead our established Mid-Con Region.


Working with the Regional General Manager, the Regional Water Market Leader, and an energetic and high performing team, this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in:

  • In consultation with the Regional General Manager and Market Leader, the Business Group Leader will develop, support, and execute on business strategies and opportunities, and be accountable for the sustainable growth of the Water services, meeting established metrics for the team's portfolio
  • Manage Business Group performance, people, and resources
  • Provide vision and direction for the Mid-Con Water business that links with GHD's North America market strategy, and input into the Region Market Strategy
  • Ensure the smooth delivery of projects, manage, and monitor project outcomes, troubleshooting issues as they arise, liaise with clients to forge long term relationships, and manage expectations internally and externally
  • Be well-connected and influential, building and developing relationships with existing and potential clients and partners, with a focus on business development
  • Provide technical and business leadership in the execution and completion of projects,
  • Provide leadership to the Business Group in line with GHD's values and objectives
  • Develop meaningful connections and influencing positive outcomes, building, and developing relationships with the other Regional BGLs to collaborate and share resources where feasible, and supporting relationships with existing and potential clients and partners
  • Work with project directors, project managers and project teams to improve job delivery and overall commercial performance
  • Client manager for Key Clients
  • Providing leadership to the Business Group in line with GHD's values and objectives, while coaching and developing employees within the business group
  • Actively participates in professional and/or industry organizations to promote the GHD brand.

Business Unit Performance Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement Business Group Business Plan
  • Sustainable growth of the Business Group's net revenue
  • Compliance with requirements of the GHD HSE Management system and management participation matrix
  • Drive culture of accountability and commercial performance.
  • Monitor and manage backlog, utilization, DSO, variances, and markups.
  • Development of job/scope of work packages, budgets, and progress
  • Resourcing allocation
  • Manage and mitigate risks
  • Project Manager or Project Director as required
  • Ensure technical soundness of work produced by the Business Group

What you bring to the team:

  • 15+ years professional experience within an engineering consultancy firm with at least 5 or more years in a leadership role, managing, leading and mentoring others
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineer along with a PE designation is the state of Texas
  • Demonstrated technical capability across your area of technical expertise, including all project phases from desktop studies and planning, to detailed design and construction
  • Effective & proven business development, networking, and client relationship management skills
  • Ability to develop lasting client relationships based on trust and delivery excellence
  • Proven background in delivering projects from proposal to completion
  • Detailed knowledge of local, national, and international standards and other industry guidelines and be connected into networks across the industry
  • Ability to mentor and train team members
  • Provide technical leadership, often in multi-disciplinary teams for planning, feasibility studies and detailed design project phases
  • Experience in business development and/or support (proposal writing, positioning with clients, interview presentation/preparation)
  • Excellent organization and analytical skills
  • Ability to accurately communicate complex information verbally and in writing
  • This position requires occasional travel
